I have a 2004 xe 4 cylinder 5 speed 2 wheel drive frontier. My father bought it in 2007 with 42,000 miles on it and fave it to me 6 months ago with 247,000 miles on it. Currently it has 256,000 miles on it. Problems have included:

-rear end replaced at 90,000, 130,000, 185,000 miles with new complete factory rear ends, then again at 200,000 with a h233b out of a 1996 pathfinder.

-clutch replaced at 165,000 miles, 180,000 miles and 210,000 miles and needs a new one soon.

- rear bumper fell apart while hauling a car at 200,000 miles. Replaced with peice of pipe and installed receiver hitch.

- egr valve rusted apart at the base of the cage at 180,000 miles. Still have not fixed due to the bolts being to rusty to remove.

- steering shaft replaced by factory at 210,000 miles as part of factory recall.

- evap vent valve replaced 6 times.

- charcoal canister replaced twice.

- all three belt tenaioners replaced.

- only belts that wont squel are factory nissan belts, all others from auto parts stores will sqaul after about a week.

- replaced alternator twice. About to convert to chevy alternator with 110 amp charging versus the 70 amp stock.

- replaced both outer tie rod ends 3 times, (may be due to after market tires)

That is about all i can remember for now.

Same as mine.

clutch replaced at 165,000 miles, 180,000 miles and 210,000 miles and needs a new one soon.
Someone is NOT driving correctly, or not installing decent parts correctly. that's terrible life. Hope pressure plate was replaced each time, and flywheel resurfaced, should last like 150K.

Belt squeals at start-up are common on these 4-cylinder Frontiers. I use Gates belts from O'Reilly or Gatorback on my 2004 and on my '98 Frontier, they don't squeal but need to be at right tension. My last squeal was loose alternator belt on the '98, just needed tightening.

Mine dont just sqaul at startup. The squal whenever the ac or alternator engages. I tighten them periodicly.

And on the clutch I buy complete clutch packs. The next clutch I'm buying is a stage 3 clutch pack from zoom with a lightweight flywheel and see where it gets me. I haul all the time with the truck, most of the time more than I should be hauling. ( when the bumper fell apart there was 10,000 pounds of scrap on it and the 16 foot trailer. I could move fine just couldn't stop to easy). And anyone who says these trucks won't pull that has never tried.

2005 SE 4x4 V6 Auto

All probs after 35K miles:

1. Fuel sender

2. Leaking window washer tank, 40K. There's a TSB on it I believe.

3. Tranny/Radiator fluid transfer at 84K. $5000. Oh, and driver side door beam popped loose & rattling around.

4. Cat converters around 80K

5. Cam Position sensor around 85K

6. Cam timing solenoid valve, code P0021

7. Now no start. 162K. Mech thinks timing chain tensioner went allowing chain jump. I'm not gonna fix it.

My '95 Toyota P/U went 240K with just the usual maintenance. NOTHING major. Anybody want to buy an '05 for parts? Back to Toy p/u for me.

Frontier- Problem- Anti freeze leaks into Transmission

Neighbor told me that this is a big problem..to say the least with Frontiers.
Where the Rad line cracks and leaks into the Transmission cooling lines.
And Nissan does not see it as a design problem and will not cover the cost of repair.... for trucks past the warranty period.
Anyone had that experience?

Well known issue and covered extensively on here. Covers th 05-10 model years, newer ones don't seem to have the issue.

Here is what Nissan has done about it.

Imma post this here also

I have a weird problem. I bought a little 5X12 foot trailer from Lowe's to haul my mower yesterday. I have the receiver hitch with trailer light hook up factory (dealer?) installed. When I plugged in the lights (standard four pin) the running lights work, but not the turn signals or brake lights.

Now here is the weird part: If I touch the brakes BEFORE I put on the turn signal, it works fine. The flashers don't work unless I step on the brakes first either.

Anyone have any ideas?

Did it come with the factory tow package? I don't remember the basic 4-pin being a factory installed tow package option but I'm not certain. Most of the factory tow packages come with the 7-pin and the full wiring harness. You might check the connectors under the driver's side frame rail in front of the hitch to make sure the connections are good and the wiring is connected properly. Then I'd check to make sure the relays were installed correctly in the pass front kick panel.
If those look ok I'd take it to the dealer assuming it's still under warranty.

It was on the truck when I got it. It has the 2" receiver hitch and a round AND 4 pin socket together on the same mount.

Guessing it's not a factory tow package then. The typical factory package includes the 7-pin plug on the bracket hanging underneath the tow hitch and it comes with a plug-in adapter for the 4-pin

I think dealerships might do it different. When they first installed my hitch they put a 4 pin on it until i complained that it should be a 7 and they replaced it.

These trucks are very finikey with wiring harnesses. Check all connections then take to dealer if its under warranty still.

I bought my 2013 Frontier brand new from the dealership, and they failed to have cabin air filters installed. It took me a few months to realize this since I never checked it.

Did your trim level make them a stock item? In SV auto trans trim, I believe the VTP is required.

I'm not sure to be honest. I've got a Desert Runner, but I figured the manufacturer would install them regardless.

In-cabin microfilters are not a standard item on DRs according to nissanproduct.info. But hey, you do get that spiffy Trip Computer and the nicer 8-way adjustable seat!

Fwiw, I believe you can purchase and easily install the filters yourself. Do a search here at CF.

I have issue with my cruise not working. Every now and then my cruise will not work. When i hit the cruise on button the set light comes on and flashes and does not go off until I turn off cruise. With the set light flashing the cruise does not engage. I've read people with pathfinders having issues. Anybody else have this issue? What did u do to fix it?

Fuse?
Are your tail/brake lights functioning correctly? I seem to recall reading about this phenomenon here at CF.
