Truck has to be stopped in neutral to switch form 4lo to 4h do to the difference in gear ratio in the t-case 4 hi can be switched on-the-fly however all wheels must be spinning at the same time so this means it will not come in or out when spinning or making sharp turns the Computer gets its info from the wheel abs sensors so a bad abs sensor means no 4wd and diff lock only works in 4 lo unless you mod. :)

Sorry 2004, I misread which oil issue you had. Hey, am I the only one that ends up with my face mashed into the windshield when I apply the brakes on someone else's vehicle?!?!? Whether I drive my son's Sierra or my other son's Ram, or my wife's Accord, I end up throwing myself and any passengers forward & hanging from their seatbelts! I'm thinking they used 1st gen brake parts for the second gen Frontiers. Perhaps it's just my truck - I'm sort of lucky that way.

I have the opposite problem, Uplander! When I go from my 3 to the truck, I wait too long to brake and then end up tasting the seat as I realize I'm no longer in the tiny car with the big brakes...

Its also entertaining sometimes at the first turn, going from the 106 to the 131 inch wheelbase. Turn-in is, shall we say, different. lol

Yeah...that's what I mean. The Fronty's brakes seem, undersized. I found myself 1/3 of the way into an intersection before I realized the brakes are sub-standard in the F and have since learned to brake earlier. When I do this in the Accord, I end up braking hard and well short of the intersection.

Cuda383 - I know what the brakes are like on THOSE things, so you have the opposite problem - lol! (Unless you upgraded - these's some pretty cool brake and suspension upgrade available for older cars these days...)

But you're right - we need to pay closer attention when going from one vehicle to another, for sure!

My antiknock sensor set off the CEL and I had to get it replaced before I could pass State inspection. Cost a bundle, too.
My ABS light has been on for a year and a half, now. I cleaned the sensors, but that wasn't it. I looked for a rebuilt module, but the places I looked said they didn't rebuild the one we use. Any news about that? I found a new one on eBay for $400, but thought I'd ask before I get on that merry go round.

You know, it felt like I was pressing on a wooden box and crossing my fingers. I just replaced my front pads on my '04 and turned the rotors. I used Hawk HP pads that will dust, but there is a massive difference in stopping power and pedal feel. I've also got a set of Brembo rotors too.

I found the pads on Tirerack and the rotors on Amazon.

This past week I had an issue with my truck not starting. It would do nothing, or fire right up with no sluggishness. I didn't think it was a battery issue, just seemed to be random. I ended up taking it to the dealership figuring that I didn't really have time to diagnose it myself nor the tools (all my tools are at my cousin's house in Charlotte). Ended up being the clutch depressed switch that was the problem. I had noticed hearing a faint clicking noise for the past few months but didn't really think much of it at the time. Now that sound has gone away after they replaced it so that must have been the sign that it was coming apart. They told me my original one had broken in half and the pin that depresses was not even being pushed because it was so far out of position, hence why it wouldn't let my starter engage. Ended up being $55 OTD to get it fixed at the dealership so I'm not complaining.

Bottom line: If you have a higher mileage 6spd D40 and start hearing a clicking noise from under the dash when you press the clutch pedal, might want to think about replacing the clutch switch as it's probably about to fail.

2011 frontier engine oscillating vibration at idle in gear worse with A/C cycling

my trk has 93k on it and while at a light with in gear and a/c on the motor vibrates pretty bad, does it with or w/o a/c on but more sever while a/c on
then while in park and running after a few minutes of idleing seems to get worse u can put hand on engine cover when it does it and really feel vibration
2011 frontier 93k 4.0 v6
any ideas out there

This is fairly typical with the 4.0. You may want to check the motor mounts to make sure they're not bad and making the existing condition worse. If the mounts are ok you can always either get a tuner to bump the idle up a bit or take it to the dealer and have them raise the idle another 50 rpm. That'll help.
I'm assuming that you don't have any CELs or other air/fuel delivery issues that could be causing it?

Sorry, check engine lights or anything that would throw a driveability code in the ECM (engine control module)

The driver window rolls up very slowly for the first 1/2. Once about 1/2 way up, it returns to noraml speed. I never investigated this. I just deal with it. But it is gettign to the point where it needs to be addressed. Anyone dealt with this?
Mine was doing the same thing on all the windows. I took a can of spray silicone with the straw & sprayed the front & rear guides on each door. The windows work great since I did that.

My main complaint on my '99 (manual) is that the 1st gear is basically useless. I don't know if it's the gearing or what but it winds up way too fast. I've started just taking off in 2nd and pretty much ignoring it even has a 1st gear.
I don't know much about how gears work, I'm more skilled in cosmetics and electronics.

lol!

I'm OK with 1st gear in my 1998 5-speed, 4-cylinder. I'm over 195K on that transmission now. So half those miles are "ours".
