2018 Crew Cab Alloys on a 2017 Frontier S - Lug Nut differences?

Hey All,

I found a set of 4 factory 2018 Frontier SV crew cab wheels (265/70R16) to put on my 2017 Frontier S king cab and replace the steelies/hubcaps.

The wheels still have tires on them (about 40% tread remaining), so I am betting the tire pressure monitors are still installed. The gent that is selling them said he took them off to install new wheels... and at $250 for the set with usable tires, I think it is a pretty good deal.

From researching the forum, I understand the wheels will fit with no issues, however, will I need different lug nuts?

Thanks

You got a great deal on those wheels! If the tires still have the original pressure sensors, you’ll need to have your truck programmed to recognize them. Each sensor has its own serial number - Frontiers don’t automatically recognize new pressure sensors. Most tire stores can do this for you.
I don’t know if you can reuse your steel wheel lugs with aluminum wheels - can you pull one off and post pictures of it next to a ruler?

~1.25" overall
3/16" taper depth

Looks like I will have to replace them... the local dealer that gives me free oil changes and rotates the tires for $18 seems to have some monkeys with impact guns

The spare on my 2018 P4X is a steel wheel (different from the standard S model steel wheels though) and lug nuts for the alloys fit it.

I took off a set of these 16" alloy wheels and put 17" factory-spare steelies on in place using the lugnuts that I already had, I can confirm they fit just fine.

so the lug sits down in it and it would be very hard to reach by hand if they were shorter.
I suspect the dealership that I bought my truck from, which had put new cheap tires on it, replaced four wheel locks with alternate lugnuts. I have one lugnut on each wheel that's smaller than the other five. They still fit even with the greater stickout due to switching to steel wheels though.

I'd guess that the lugs for the S-trim (silver-painted, styled-steel) are shorter because the steel wheel's center hub is nowhere near as thick as the alloy wheel's center hub. The longer alloy-wheel lugs fit, but look odd since they stick out.

I think the rubber gasket on the S-trim lugs are used to hold the center caps on. Not sure since I don't know how the styled-steel wheel center caps are secured.

Reset the tire pressure yourself. Read through the thread, a couple different pressure options. Basically, a paperclip and a little drive and you are set.

tried the reset as described ... no joy....

Might try again tomorrow

However, the truck looks like it should now...

Going from 235/75R15's up to 265/70R16's really fills out the wheel wells and makes it look like it should... and my Speedo reads correct to my GPS now (it was 4-5 MPH faster)
