What's the difference between the SE and XE trims?

sorry to ask such a rookie question. I've been looking for a Frontier for a bit (I'm looking for a v6 manual, 4x4 crew cab) they don't turn up too frequently but I'll find the perfect one eventually. I looked at one today (an se) and didn't get it because the dealer wouldn't drop his price much at all so I walked out, but I see another one online that's an XE, I'm just kind of wondering which trim is better or which has which features and all that stuff.

Also, what do you guys all think of this one here? Cars for Sale: 2003 Nissan Frontier 4x4 Crew Cab LB in Santa Ana, CA 92704: Truck Details - 308188168 - AutoTrader.com I want to go look at that this week sometime and if it's good I was thinking of starting my offer at 9,500 tax, license and registration out the door. I test drove that one I mentioned earlier that the dealer wouldn't budge price on, but I noticed the clutch was REALLY soft, like a mouse could have pushed it in, is that just a frontier thing or was that just a weird clutch? And lastly, I can't 100% tell from the picture, but you smart guys can probably just tell by looking at it, but is that a 5 or 6 foot bed?

This is what you are looking for to compare the two. Click on the "specs" tab.

2003 Nissan Frontier Specifications | Nissanhelp.com

I have the SE and you get a larger output alternator and 16" rims standard. You also get the LSD in rear standard. On the SE model it's more likely you will find radio controls, leather seats, alarm, temperature gauge and compass, fog lights and or Rockford Fosgate. One rare option in both is VDC (traction control) and TPS (tire pressure monitor). Other nice feature found in both is a bed liner and over the rail protectors.

SE will come with painted bumpers, mirrors, fender flares while the XE will come with black/gray bumpers and mirrors and fender flares.

NOTE: These trucks have a HUGE set of options (all factory). They can be mixed and matched in the XE vs SE model (you get more options standard in the SE) and they have changed year to year.

2002 - Major dash interior change.
2003 - Nothing change but the exhaust manifold cracking was fixed.
2004 - An rare LE version was made. Very hard to find.

That's not a bad looking truck and its got a 6' bed. Truth is, its only worth about $8500 tops. Less than that if it has any cosmetic or mechanical issues. As for the clutch on the other truck, I would say that the clutch was worn out if it was that soft.

Thanks for the info, I guess I'll hold out for an SE. I'm getting too damn specific I'm not going to be able to find a truck that meets my specifications until March! haha, no biggie, my car works fine I just want a frontier really badly but it can wait. I actually should wait until 2012 so I can claim part of it as a tax write off for next year.

The SE also has the light gray interior accents instead of black like on XE models.

Seat fabric is different between them as well.
Not sure if that is accurate cause my SE has the black interior.

HAHAHAH that settles it! And I see I asked a VERY silly question about asking if it was a 6 footer, now that I understand LB is long bed, duh! I'm a noob with off roading so expect a TON of noob questions from me because I literally know NOTHING but I want to know it all and become knowledgable so bare with me for the first bit I'm on this forum. I'll hopefully have a Frontier by February or so, I'm not in a huge rush and I should wait until 2012 anyway for tax reasons but if a perfect truck comes up, I'll try and snatch it up, it's hard to wait I'm too impatient. I'm really looking forward to being able to go to the desert and go camping, dirtbiking and off roading. I think my first purchases other than the truck obviously will be off road lights and a ready ramp (bi folding motorcycle ramp/tail gate extender).

Thanks for all the help so far guys, I'm really looking forward to getting a truck and becoming a real member of the forum!

no. then again, I got the DR package so I have chrome bumpers, v-6, AC, and just what a truck needs without a bunch of extras.
se's have a different seat pattern (from what i've seen) and different wheels and painted mirrors, the xe's you CAN get painted fender flares and front bumper (min are painted) from what i have seen all se's came with the beefy h22b rear end, and some xe's came with the weak open diff c200 (mine has the c200), other than that it just comes down to options like joefrontier said, i am happy with what my 4x4 xe came with (minus the c200), don't be afraid to get an xe, you can get them well equiped.
the DR package got the upgraded rear end with the V-6.
they changed the interior & exterior in '01 i think

my '04 looks exactly like that

it seems like the 4 cylinder 2WD XE's (post '01) always have the painted bumpers & flares, and bedliners
My 01 X has that layout, but its an SE.
I think my 00 dash has held up better than the 01. the 01 was painted plastic instead of molded in color.
