I’m being told the trans Pawg is now just a software fix..? does this sound correct?

No. Maybe. No one know and if they claim they do, they're a liar.

Nissan hasn't released a fix for the pawl problem, they're working on it. If you're not already aware this has become almost like a 2 stage recal. They announced the recal and the fix but then shortly after they started applying that solution they stopped that process and expanded the recall.

It feels like when they started fixing the first they discovered that the problem is bigger or at least different than what they expected.

There is apparently an TSB about transmissions that have shifting issues and may be eligible for a software update but the parking pawl issue is completely different and separate.

You might want to modify that a bit. We have in this post a ref to the parking pawl issue and TCM programing. We know this because of the campaign ID's within it.

Depends on if you have the actual recall for parking pawl. If you dont have the parking pawl recall, but still have the TCM reflash recall then the parking pawl was either fixed from the factory or by the dealership you bought yours from. You will still need to get the TCM reflash recall if you don’t have the parking pawl recall.

My 22 Frontier Pro-4x has a late July build, my dads was built in August. Neither of us have had the parking pawl recall ever, only the TCM software update. He had his software update done before they let him buy it on Saturday. I took mine to my dealer and had the TCM software update done yesterday at the dealer.

But, seriously...there are two recalls. One is for the dimensional issue (a mechanical clearance issue where the pawl doesn't engage completely), and the other is for the force required to get the pawl to engage (the software issue).
Some trucks will have both (such as mine), some will have just the software issue, and new trucks for sale have neither.

Be advised when you check the Nissan recall site you must enter the VIN in upper case. They're too stupid to use an "all to upper" function when you submit your query.
The result of a lower-case VIN entry will always be "No open recall or campaigns associated with this vehicle."

FWIW, I have contacted my dealer over a month ago to be placed on the work list. "No parts are moving" is their current reply.
