Does anyone here have a softopper and can you comment on how well it keeps in heat? I'm tossing around the idea of getting a shell for camping, but I do still need to be able to use the bed for hauling stuff, so a softopper would make more sense. It gets cold here in Colorado, and the past few times I went camping in California it dropped below freezing, so I need something very well insulated.

It's just canvas - so if you need better heat, then a better sleeping bag is the right answer.
I agree with Zedbra. I don't have a softtopper, but even my hard shell doesn't hold very much heat.

Anyway, basic physics says that the softtopper is going to hold heat even less than a hard shell. Relatively thick fiberglass, while a poor insulator, is still better than canvas.
