So I have been taking my time with this install and have it just about complete. It’s an old Yeasu FT-7800R dual band radio, will upgrade to something newer at some point.

All cables are completely hidden. Still working on my DC power block but got the radio powered up via LiPo battery. Antenna is a Pulse/Larsen NMO270 on a Diamond/Super Gainer mount. Speaker is an external Kenwood.

looking forward to getting the permanent power solution wired up this week. I also need to order the programming cable as I want to put a lot of freqs on her. After I did the MARS/CAP mod, it reset all my existing programming… so I will put a few local repeaters in there to see how well she gets in.

Looks great. Can't wait to do the same someday. I've been wanting to get into the hobby for literally over 30 years and finally decided to pursue it. I actaully picked up and started reading the latest copy of Gordon West's "Technician Class" book last week.I've been plucking away at it since. When I'm comfortable with the basics I plan on joining a local amateur radio club in my town and take the test.

I was licensed back in the 80's.... took my code test along with my Tech exam all at the same time, was a memorable day. I have not looked back since, its a great hobby that has many facets to it! I encourage you to learn and grow in it. Gordo is great place to start too! Im looking to upgrade to my Extra class here sometime soon.

I got my license back in 2006 and Industry Canada was really quick - got to choose my callsign and tge license is free for life. Now I have a brand new Icom IC-718 and AH-4 to go in my truck - just need to rig up an 8 foot whip. Ive had my Yaesu VX-170 in my centre console and an Alinco 6m stashed too. But HF SSB and AM is more my thing.

Looks good. I just keep mine portable and shove into Console with a magnetic roof antenna when I use it.
This looks good. Hows that antenna working out? I have a cheap old one I found used for 10 bucks.

So far, I have only powered my rig from a portable battery so i have not had any qso’s yet. Should have my fuse block installed this weekend. It hits the repeater not too far away full-quieting but will know more when I get the install complete.
