Basically the title says it all.

It was cold this morning and the truck acted like it was not going to start. I have the original battery and have not checked prices but i'm thinking a factory replacement should be around $50 and the Optima maybe double that....

What do you guys think?

i believe the cheepest optima is the red top and its around 150, just ball park. in all honesty unless your running a lot of electronics and are having a hard time starting i dont think they are worth it. but i could be wrong, just my .02

I have run yellow tops in everything I owned due to having very large stereos, pricing on the yellow tops for me was $123, now the are like $180+. Great batteries but nothing magic to warrant that price, I don't think it is worth it anymore unless you have tons of accessories. The factory battery sucks, I had mine crap on me after 2 years!

Optima is a great name but if you compare their specs to other batteries, they are about double the price for the same performance. The good part is that they are "sealed" so you can mount them in whatever orientation that you want but that is about it.

Personally I would look into the Everstart batteries from Walmart. They have good numbers, a good price and their warranty is the best. 3yr free then another 5yr prorated. All of this for about 80ish or less OTD. Plus, Walmart is nationwide so if you have an issue on a trip or etc.... they are always around the corner, lol.

I've run them in all my previous vehicles. From my experience they have lasted much longer than most other batteries i've tried. I've had optimas last 7 + years and still run strong when the vehicle was sold. However that being said I've heard alot of people complaining in the last couple years about the quallity dropping off. A lot of the jeepers I know that used them are now switching to oddesy batteries. They are said to be of higher quality than the original Optimas.

I've used optima battery's for a long time. Red tops for colder weather and yellow for better quality electronics (no lights dimm with bass etc).

My current yellow top ran in my jeep cherokee for 3/4+ years went into my salt river boom box for over a year then into the fronty since 2007 and it still runs strong.

It did die on me once at butcher jones when someone fell asleep in the cab with the doors open... after a jumpstart it's kept its charge since... (knock on wood)

The only drawback i have with them is that the terminals are crisscrossed with how they normally would be on a battery so i have to always use an extended positive cable to reach the terminal...

Stock replacement has to be closer to $100. Stock Nissan battery is NOT maintenance free as most would think.
Sears Die Hard batteries are about the same price as stock but last longer. Costco has optimas at their stores.

I dont know about the Optima batteries being good anymore. I heard something about they got bought out by another company and the quality went right down the crapper hole. I got my replacement from Sears. Good tip is if you still have the stocker and your truck has low miles get in contact with Nissan Corp. We have a "special" warranty for the battery. I ended up getting the full cost of mine refunded even though they were only supposed to only pay like 25% of the cost.

I used a 24 series battery in place of the stock. has a bit more power, and lasts longer. the cheap ones at walmart are no good. stick with a good(prefered) parts store. napa would probably be your best bet. dont forget to check/replace your terminals and main ground wires(block to battery and battery to frame).

But why buy a cheap battery and "expect it to go out" reguardless of warenty?

when you spend a little more and get "peace of mind"?

Id wrather replace my battery becasue i know its old, not replace it becasue it broke down on me...

just my .02

buy the cheap ones because they last just as long as the "peace of mind" expensive ones.

Nobody recommended them yet, but I've run Duralast Gold's for a while. Never had a problem with the several I've bought (knock on wood). Fact, left my radio on one day by accident (I leave my keys in the truck) and it ran for 10 hours on a medium volume. Cranked right up at the end of the day; slightly weak, but it didn't let me down...

I know it's an Optima thread, but for the price I think there is alot better...

i use the duralast golds too and it hasnt failed me yet. did the same w/ running on just the battery once too long but after the jump, no probs. i've had it for about 2 yrs now. i thought about an optima but have heard the same about quality going down. even the guy at autozone told me that, granted they probably make more on the duralasts but he said they have had complaints on the optimas.

+1 for Interstate Batteries!

After an OEM battery dies in what ever its in I replace it with Interstate, lawn tractor, motorcycle, quads, cars, truck, boat.

My Interstate dealer treats me good, and good prices because they know that's the only batteries I run.

I have had Optima deep cycle Marine battery in my boat,1st one lasted 1yr,second one lasted 2.5.

My boat with 350 285hp Merc I/O now has Interstate and been there 6 years when I am not using the boat I use a battery tender 2 amp trickle charger to maintain full charge.

My Interstate guy came to my shop and did maintainance on my huge 48 volt forklift battery.

i ended up getting a Duralast battery Gold series from Auto Zone $80 3 year replacement and 8 year warranty *** 750 cold cranking Amps (935 cranking Amps).

The optima was close to $200 720 cold cranking amps and the red was about 180 620 cold cranking amps

i decided the Optima was not worth the money. Thanks for your imput guys!!

Optimas IMO are certainly not worth double the price of Walmart Everstart MAXX. I have had many of the yellow Walmart wonders... all have lasted between 5-7 years. Great performance and excellent warranty.
