Hey Everyone,

I just got a 2007 Nissan Frontier XE (15 Inch Rims). What are the biggest tires I can put on a stock truck (no lift package) without hitting the wheel wall when turning.

Thanks!

what size are the tires you have on it now?
And is it 2WD or 4WD?

My Pro-4X came with 265/75R16's, and I just put some 285/70R17's on it, and now I've got to trim the front air-dam, because it catches and rubs when I turn while backing up, and I had to remove the front mud flaps, because they were rubbing when I turned, going forward...

Here's a helpful site, for checking the overall diameter of various sizes, if you want to do some research for yourself:

Tire Size Conversion

You can punch in your factory tire size, for tire one, and then punch in whatever size you're thinking about going to, for tire two, and it will give you some approximate comparisons, for heighth, width, and speed comparisons

Of course, just because you found the exact size configuration you want, don't expect it to be a widely available tire (that only happens if you're extremely lucky!)

Hope this helps!

I have a 2WD. Thank you for your response here, but those wont work for my wheels. My rims are r15 rather than 16 and I'm not going to be purchasing new rims.

Please search next time before posting but,
biggest size with no lift and no triming: 32" (265-75-16)
biggest size with 2"+ lift and minor trimming: 33" (285-75-16)
biggest size with 6"+ lift, lots of trimming, and regear: 35" (315-75-16)
I did my search and I understand these r16 sizes. My issue is that im looking at r15 wheels rather than the 16s that you posted. Also, this being a forum for discussion and questions, I dont think there should be any issue whether or not i search. Those who are helpful can go ahead and help me out. I do appreciate the thoughts and direction though. :)

Because of my own experience, I would just go 1 inch smaller than what glamisdude suggested, just to be safe...

biggest size with no lift and no triming: 31"
(Somewhere between a 31-10.5R15 and a 285/75 or 295/70 R15)

biggest size with 2"+ lift and minor trimming: 32"
(Somewhere between a 32-11.5R15, and a 295/75 or 305/70 R15)

biggest size with 6"+ lift, LOTS of trimming, and regear: 35"
(The sizes in this area vary greatly... And there's not many available in a 15" rim size - most manufacturers only make this tire size available in a 16"+ rim size, but if you're not doing a lift, then you don't need to concern yourself with it)

Those tire sizes may or may not be available, which is why I included a few different sizes to compare. But be warned, the 285/295/305 sizes are all going to be REALLY wide, when compared to the 31/10.5 & 32/11.5 sizes...

And one word of advice, be careful with how you word things in here - text lacks emotion, and you can never tell if something is being said disrespectfully, sarcastically, or jokingly...
I thought you're post seemed a tiny bit rude, almost in a "why should I have to search? You guys should just tell me!" - kind of way, but then the smily threw me off, and gave me the sense that I'm sure that's not how you meant it...

Regardless, I hope this helps! :)

Thanks for the awesome information. As with my wording. I just felt the replier came off a bit rude without knowing whether or not I looked up tire sizes. I did some research and read that you can install a 31/32in tire, however in my past experiences (My old Ranger), while the 32s fit under it, I had some rub when turning sharply. This wasn't mentioned if I would run into this issue in any of my research. I posted to this forum in hopes that I could find individuals who have had first hand experience and what has worked with their trucks. In my sarcastic reply, understand how it could have come across. Thank you again

Mob I have to kindly disagree... Also I believe you misread my post. I said 33" with 2"+ lift AND minor trimming.

Also 32" is the stock size on a gen 2 Pro4X/Nismo, so they will clear with zero lift and zero trimming...

Its once you want to go to 33"s that things get slightly more difficult.

Once you put wheels on with more offset, you will have issues. the O.P. should have no or very minor issue running a 32" tall tire.

To the O.P. have someone sit in the truck and slowly turn the steering wheel from full lock to full lock. watch the tires and you will see the two areas where they are going to rub. one will be on the pinch weld area where the mud flap is and the front air dam. Look at how much room you have currently and this will give you an idea of what you will be able to accomplish. When I had no lift and 265/75/16 tires on my Pro-4X, I had about 3/4" in both those areas, so I knew going 1" taller in diameter would be just fine.

Ok guys, I agree, and disagree...

The offset on my new wheels are what's mostly to blame for my tires rubbing, and I mentioned this in my post... As did I also say "to be safe"

Tire sizes will vary slightly, from manufacturer to manufacturer, and depending on whether you're going with a mud-terrain (M/T), or all-terrain (A/T).

My tires are an All-Terrain tread, both on the old, and the new.
I went from a 31.7" tire, to a 32.6", based on that same info (pinch weld clearance and air-dam clearance), and the new tires rubbed on both areas, even went so much as to grab the front air-dam, while in reverse, and tried to fold them up into the wheel well...

Kinda surprised me that my 6" lift didn't give me enough clearance to run a less-than 1" larger tire!

And while you would expect to see this on the outside shoulder of a wider tire, it did it on the inside shoulders of the tire, too - and the back-spacing is the same on both rims, it's the outside edge that stands wider, overall.

All that, ultimately makes me recant what I listed as an optional tire size, and recommend either a 31-10.5, or a 32-11.5 R15, as his only real options... Because those 285's or larger, are most likely going to rub, regardless of lift height.

Plus he has a 2wd, while our trucks are the PRO-4X 4WD's - which typically sit a little higher in the front, and have a slight bit more clearance than what his does.

So, I stand behind my post, for his safety, on a 2WD fronty - it's ultimately up to him to find and choose what tires he wants, I just want to make sure that I don't give him any advice that'll have him dealing with the same headaches I had.

No disrespect intended to anyone here who has put their .02¢ in, I'm simply adding mine, so we can all be penny-aires, someday :)

Oh, and speaking of stock rims & tires...
Anyone in Southern California interested in my old set? 265/75R16's, 6lug-4.5" bolt circle, fits 2005+ frontiers
There's roughly 50+ % left on the tread, on all 4.
If so, make me an offer

I'm right off the 10 freeway, about 15-20 miles south-west of where the "Lake Fire" is burning...

I have the a 2010 XE model. I installed a 2inch lift, and have 265/75/16 (almost 32's) and they rub, even with the lift. I dont have mud flaps, and I removed the front lil air dam piece. Also, I bought different 16" rims with 0 offset.

Not trying to turn this into a "gotcha" moment, so I'll just say it this way:
That right there is exactly what we needed - someone with a 2WD model that can give some feedback more specific to the same model the OP has...

not really, because this poster also put of wheels with a different offset. Any more offset will shove the tire in to the pinchweld and air dam as opposed to the stock wheel.

I still say the OP needs to look at their actual truck as a friend cranks the steering wheel from lock to lock. Once they find those two spots that are the closest, then they can determine how much taller of a tire they can go.

Hey friends. The xe sits ALOT lower than any other frontier. Take a drive down to the dealer in your pro 4xs or se s if your stock and park next to one. They come stock with like a 235. There's NO WAY the op could clear a 32 like the other trucks can with no lift.

Everyone who does not have an xe 2wd your experience or what fits on your truck does not apply here in any way shape or form it's a completely different application to "what will fit and what won't"

Approximately :
235=28.8
265/70/16=30.6
265/75/16=31.8

It does sit rather low on its stock 235s (you can see it in my profile picture). Do you see it possible to fit 31x10.5 r15 under it without rubbing? I do plan on getting a 2in suspension lift eventually, but I simply cant afford the 1000 bucks its going to cost to get the tires and lift at the same time. I'd rather throw bigger tires (I like the look of the BFG Rugged Terrain), But I almost feel it isnt worth it if i cant clear 31s.

Thanks!

Find another 2nd Gen Frontier/Xterra PRO-4X/Off-Road owner and put his wheels on and see if they clear. Seeing how the wheel wells are the exact same, I can't see how they would rub other than possibly sitting a bit lower(guessing they only sit lower because of the tire size).

Each truck has a slightly different set of factory coils on it than the other does. even with 2657516 a stock SE truck will sit lower than a stock PRO4x or nismo with the same size tire
