Wipe the stick off and check it again. If it's still over full I'd be heading to the dealer.

Most dipsticks are a quart between the low and high, if thats the case yours looks to be 1/4 of a quart over, that's one cup. I have a large syringe with a length of vent hose, I would just suck it out a bit and be done with it. if I did anything at all.

 

Did you check it when you first bought it to compare it to.???
Oil looks clean so I wouldn't be to concerned unless its ( making oil ) 😉
Also I don't know which way you're holding the stick but I knew a guy that always held the stick upside down.. He was rarely low on oil...

What does the other side of the stick read? Idk if on the new engines it goes in at an angle or not. If it sits in the sump at an angle, you’d need to average the two sides to know your true level. Was the truck ran before checking or sitting? If it’s been sitting all of the oil from the galleys would be back down in the sump showing a higher level than what’s there when it’s distributed throughout the system.

If you’re truly concerned, take some of it out. Otherwise leave it as it doesn’t look to be churning from the crank.

 

Nissan dipsticks are so vague, probably doesn’t matter.
If you’re concerned change it, many of us do so at 1-2k anyway to get any break in bits out.

 

I have a 2020 frontier with 1500 miles and I just went to check mine for the first time because of your post… and it looks like mine is a little high too.

 

Well I checked mine while the engine was cold, if you go in the manual it tells you to start your car to the idling normal temperature then turned off and wait for 10 minutes then check it. That is one of the things that threw me off but the dealership explained it pretty well. There was also residual oil that's stuck in the tube which looked a little bit off.

 

It's about a cup over. Wouldn't worry about it!

Its more than a cup. This is what I pulled out. and mine was way above high excatly where shippnastys was. I marked it on my manual for you guys to also see on ships other post on here.

 

Was the engine hot or cold? Did you check both sides?

 

Man, Literally just was about to make a post. SAME THING! I took my frontier to Nissan at 1200 to get that oil out and I put in Valvolines new Extended performance oil. I know the tech didnt overfill because I watched and he gave me my 1 quart container back. I bought a 5qt jug and 1 quart bottle. So when I got the 1 quart back it has 1/4 taken out. Now I have about 3000 miles on her. I decided today to change out the antenna and I was like what the hell im going to check the oil. I have enclosed a pic of where the oil level was from my manual and I marked it with my black pen.

I have one blackstone labs oil kit left so I decided im taking a sample and sending it off. It better not be fuel dilution. I literally got rid of a 2020 ranger for this very exact reason. ONly their reason was the HFP was leaking down the shaft and into the oil pan. I filled up my test kit bottle and drained more to get it to where it needs to be and im pretty sure i pulled out half a quart.

I have the 2021 Frontier midnight edition. Like I said, was literally about to make a post and saw yours before I hit new discussion. I have an aPPT on the 6th to fix my door. Im going to monitor it.

If you do that test and it comes up bad let me know and then I'll do a test. I heard about this test how much do they usually cost to get done

 

I went to the dealership they cleaned out the tube. Suck the dip stick in and it was slightly over full. They totally understood what I was seeing because residual oil with staying in there when you pulled out the dipstick.

 

Well I will be the gueina pig to get it tested and I will update this post. I already filled out the test kit and went to the post office and dropped it off. Will post results. I really hope its not fuel getting into the oil. I know with GDI some fuel can get in the oil but not this much. And see what concerns me is I already had my oil changed and I was in the shop with the tech. He showed me the dipstick after because I was asking questions about some stuff so they let me in and it was dead perfect where it needed to be.

And I just drained out half a quart plus the little bottle from Blackstone.

Shouldnt the rings be seated by say 3000miles ish? But you bring up a point, so far myself and the other members we have very low mileage, all of us that reported under 3000. I mean you could be right, these motors like to keep low revs especially in 9th gear. I drive between 60-70 and at 65 its at 1500rpms on the highway and I havent been driving it like a bat out of hell.

 

My 2020 was the same. I did my first oil change at 1200 to get the break in stuff out and then poured in a 5 qt jug. and it actually still reads about that much on the dipstick. the manual says we need a bit over 5 qts to fill the crankcase, but if you put in that much, you'll go way way over the top mark on the dipstick. and that's when I let the old oil drain until it was a really slow drip.

I guess next oil change I'm going even less than 5 qts.

 

Yep same for me. I put in that new Valvoline Extended performance because I wanted to try it. Valvoline is marketing it for DI engines based off the marketing materials and the Add pack. I am going to dump this oil next week and I am going back to Penzoil platinum. Will do just 5qts too. Hoping my oil Analysis report will come back at least next week before my appointment to get my door fixed at nissan, I want to have enough to take to them to not just blow me off. Pretty sure they might tell me since they didnt do the oil analysis themselves they will discredit mine.

I really hope this motor isnt designed like this to have this problem. Thats so disappointing. It was so hard for me to get this truck because of shortage issues and Im kinda pissed off about it. Surely nissan did extensive testing on the design and operation of this engine before releasing it. Cant imagine the engine oil wasnt testing after running it. They surely have to know fuel is getting in there.

I had a 2020 ranger that experienced this with the 2.3ecoboost and I got rid of it. Take a look at the 123 pages and 1100+ post about people having this issue. Ford has even replaced injectors, the high pressure fuel pump, the fuel rails etc, and it has now gotten to the point where ford told dealers no more and its normal operation as they havent pin pointed what the cause is. Personally I think its because of the shaft that drives the HFP and the seal leaking. Fuel in oil

A little fuel from GDI engines getting into the oil is okay not 1/2-1 qt of fuel.. Unbelievable!

 

When there is gas in the oil, it smells like gas. You wouldn't miss it.

 

I mean I smell it. Its not uncommon to smell even fuel vapor in a GDI engine from the engine oil. Same for TGDI. Its even worse smelling when I take the oil cap off of my WRX. Anyways, I did the ol cardboard trick that works same for diesel. You dab a little oil on the cardboard and see if you get 2 circles. The fuel will soak faster than the oil. And sure enough I did it and the ring was huge. Took some old oil from my wifes rogue (port injection QR25DE) and barely any outter ring.

Im just going to have to wait till my lab report comes back from Blackstone. At least will be able to tell for sure then. However even having them test it, I think I read they can only show a value of up to 5%.

You posted a picture of "step 5" from the manual. I was wondering if step 4 had any lead up to the technique to checking.

 

Also, are these high fills only on the initial from the factory fill or after an oil change as well? Ay chance the hose filling the engines at the factory isn't calibrated correctly? almost every frontier and Xterra left the factory a little low on coolant. how much oil is in one extra chug on the oil gun?

 

Oh I see what you mean. Step 4 from the manual is "Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean, reinsert it all the way" And did you see my other post on page 1 I had mine changed out and I was in the shop with the tech and watched him do it. Once he was done I did the dipstick check myself 3 times and it was perfect, exactly where it needed to be.

I ended up with a 1/2qt after 1800miles of driving. Plus whatever i pulled out to fill up blackstones little test bottle. little over 2 cups.

There's no flaw.
There's no oil dilution, unless the injectors are blocked from cheap gas.
A lot of folks have fairly wild imaginations.These are highly efficient engines, they are not pouring unburned gasoline into the oil.

 

No. Oil dipsticks will tend to read on the conservative side since that is a system where overfilling can cause big issues.

 

Lets see someone take it to 5000miles then check the oil and see how high it is. Most of us are in 1200-2000 miles when we checked this.

 

Well I already took the liberty of sending off a sample. Will let you guys know if its fuel dilution and post report here.

 

When you change your oil, put in what the manual calls for, run it for a few minutes, and check the reading.
Then you'll know how far off the dipstick is.
Oil level is not that critical. A little low, a little high, no big deal.

 

^^^^ half-quart high.........half-quart low, makes no difference, start fretting when your dipstick comes out dry.
