Living in a high theft area - which fuse works best?

We live about 22 miles from the San Ysidro border in San Diego County. It's a very over-than-average theft area to live in. (I own a 2019 Nissan Frontier crew cab with a V6 engine)

The truck is parked in our driveway.

Is there a fuse I can remove that will prevent someone from starting my truck? But it should be a fuse that won't screw up the radio presets....

any help on this would be awesome!

The 15 amp fuel pump fuse (#48) would be the most obvious choice.

There's also a 15 amp fuse (#55) for the fuel injectors.

Long-term, consider installing a hidden kill switch. It will be much more convenient to activate than pulling a fuse - which means that you'll be much more likely to use it all the time.

I also agree with a kill switch, the fuse choice gets old very quickly and if you weaken the connection from frequently removing it there’s a chance it may intermittently lose power and not run. Good luck and may you never have anything happen to your truck.

I park mine in my driveway too.

There's several 4 MP security cameras covering that area, along with good night time lighting.

The cameras feed an Reolink NVR that records any movement in the area, and the NVR feeds video monitors in my living area, and in my bedroom.

The cameras have microphones, so the video monitors are constantly playing whatever sounds the microphones are picking up - which eliminates the need to watch the monitors all the time.

The entire 4-camera system was around $500 - Cheap insurance.

In Texas, it is legal to confront (and if necessary, shoot) car burglars - There is none of the "duty to retreat" b*llsh*t commonly found in some of the more "enlightened" states.

We've also had a few catalytic converter thieves shot.

Serve's 'em right. I'm certainly not gonna weep if some D'Bag dies of "lead poisoning" while attempting to lightfinger somebody's' catalysts. NYC and Kommiefornia are completely off the rail with coddling these thugs and right back out on the street they go. Shoot a few, the word'll get around.

Last week when I was getting in my truck to leave Walmart a car pulls into the slot in front of me and placed a baseball cap adorned with the logo in the attached pic on the dashboard and I thought it was a clever idea.

But it could backfire and invite the boldest car burglar to roll the dice in hopes of scoring a firearm.

Back in 2003, I had a friend that had her car broken into. They broke the ignition so used these audio plugs to turn on the ignition. Once parked, pull plug and all power off. To start, put in plug, push starter button and off she went.

The female mounts on the dash wired to a fuse or relay. The male just had a loop of wire to make a positive connection and turn on the ignition. Since it had a loop then it can be carried on a key chain. Much more incognito than a button or switch that they will look for. You can use a smaller plug and they will think it is an audio input for the stereo.

If you need more info on the idea, let me know.

Do you have a garage? I know allot of folks got allot of stuff piled up in their garages and then have to park outside. If that's the case I'd clean it out and park it inside. People are getting more desperate all the time. Leaving it out will always be a risky.

^There ya go - Move your stuff outside, and park in the garage.

People will steal all the stuff you have outside, which also solves that problem!

Who TH steals Impalas or Taurus's? :ROFLMAO:

Agree...but most of the these types of thefts involve opportunistic & inexperienced people. A simple switch will deter most of these. In all reality they cause more damage trying to break in , only to realize there is nothing in the vehicles. Another recent thread here has a member's back sliding window broken into....bunch of tards out there!!

Have a kill switch installed if you really want some good protection. They have some programs now where you have to push a button sequence before starting they vehicle. My friend just put one in his charger... I was blown away at what they have these days! He literally has a 7-8 button code you HAVE to enter to start the thing...

These are sad times. Here in Albuquerque crime is way out of control. Our mayor likes to coddle the homeless. But they are mostly the same ones committing most of the crimes to support their meth. They are attracted to this city because they know our judicial system is catch and release. If you have a garage, use it. You junk/stuff is not worth it. Clean it out. Because if they don't steal it they will likely cause allot of damage breaking into it. At my work place I park next to the front door. Security tells me I'm supposed to park to the back. I tell them my co -workers got their cats stolen in the back and that I will continue to park up front. Now everyone parks in the front two rows lol. Also if your moving across country DON"T stop in ABQ. They love to steal the u-hauls with everything you own as your passing by. So if your passing by ABQ, get going and pass it on by lol.

Why don’t you move from those areas? You can just as easily get physically harmed or worse.
This country is not how it was when I was growing up. I can’t imagine what my parents would think if they were still here. All these politicians should be criminally held for not upholding the laws.

Sadly to law enforcement vehicle thefts are just a part of living and they don’t get the attention they should. They don’t have the time to address it as it really should be and these days it’s just a revolving door should they catch a thief. The word futile comes to mind.

We actually devote a significant amount of resources to vehicle thefts - and most property crimes - by having our forensic unit respond to and process them for fingerprints and DNA. Unless there is something major working we do them all. The bigger issue is our county attorney, who declines prosecution on a large percentage of them.

But you are correct, most departments - especially large departments - do not put much effort into vehicle thefts, and unless the person is physcially caught driving the vehicle there is seldom an arrest. It is sad because these types of crimes affect the quality of life for a lot of people.

The reason most vehicles are stolen are falling into one of 2 categories.
1) It's a nice vehicle that is semi-easy to steal.

2) It's basic transportation, I cannot tell you how many people get arrested after stealing a car just because they didn't want to walk. Happened all the time in STL-MO.

Edit: Greatest anti-theft device in my opinion?
A Transmission with a bad 2nd/3rd gear, furthest it'll get is a block and then they will ditch it.

...which is one reason I won't work for TPD.;)

^ My Shrockworks skidplates don't cover the main converter.

I would have paid extra for a plate that did.

Have to agree as to not wanting to move. The reason why I don't worry about having my truck stolen here is the fact that it's a Frontier, which in Orange County is the gardeners truck

come to think of it, you're right, But they're very old Frontiers with about 200k miles, I bet
either that, or the new ones are getting stolen by the gardeners.

Kill switch somewhere that you can access when you are getting in/out of the truck. If its a PIA place then you will skip it from time to time.

I drove a Jeep for years with only a soft top and a manual tranny. I left nothing in it at all ever. Still had windows cut even thought zippers were there and easy to undo. The manual tranny kept alot of thieves at bay even when sitting topless and doorless in shitty places.
