How does one make adjustments to hood alignment?

My brand new '15 has an issue with the hood alignment. If looking at the truck from the front, the hood is shifted to the driver's side so much, that when opening it, it rubs against the fender, back near the hinge. In fact, the paint is completely chipped off where the rubbing occurs. I searched through the FSM, and found no mention of how to adjust it "left or right." The only other info I found, was on this forum where a member loosened the top 3 bolts to the fender and moved the fender "outwards" to allow room. Just curious if there was another method.

Thanks!!!!

There is usually some play in the hinge bolts on the hood itself. you could try loosening them and pushing the hood over a bit. It would be best to have another set of hand to help keep it lined up.
Or since its so new and should have never been aligned like that take it to the dealer and complain.

Shouldn't be play on the hood side...should be on the hinge to hood ledge on the body. Unless it's been moved before you'll have to knock it loose to break the paint free.

nissan tech-info has a section on body dis/assembly for some years (not all).
this is separate from the FSM documentation, so it may be worth a look see.

I was disappointed that was nothing in this category for my 2011 so i only
downloaded all I could in one day and asked for a refund of my 1 month
subscription (which they quickly took care of).

Well, just spoke to a Nissan body shop and they said all that they do is loosen the hinges and "finagle" the hood until it clears the fender. Said it takes a couple of guys to hold it open and force it to one side lol. Body shop manager said it is something I could try. He said there is no easy way to align it with out pulling the fender off. And he also said that moving the fender rather than the hood may cause other body gaps to be out of line....

There are larger holes in the hood hinge where it bolts to the hood itself for adjustment. If you don't want to mess with the dealer (though you'll want their help with paint issues) you'll just need a wrench and another set of hands. Open the hood, loosen the bolts up just enough to get some play, adjust the hood, tighten just snug and check the fit (slowly in case you're off) and tighten if it's good. If it's off far enough that you need fender adjustment you need to have that addressed by the dealer.

Thank you! I will give this a shot knowing that now. With regard to the chipped paint, it is on the edge of the hood and not terribly noticeable when closed. Easy enough for me to touch up. I am sure I can do a better job at touching it up than the dealer blobbing some paint on. I'll see if they will throw some touch up paint my way. Thankfully the truck is the Super Black, making touch-up easier than a metallic.
