Hey everyone,

Not much of a truck guy but I figured I'd come here for some help.

Anyway, I was cleaning my sisters truck....03 Frontier Crew Cab....I used a water spot remover on the windows and let them set for a bit too long. All the windows now look like there is water on them....It's kind of like when you're washing your car and you take your mitt across the window....Now when you look through the windows from the inside everything looks blurry, kind of like heat waves on everything....it's a safety hazard.

Is there any way to take this out?

I already got a quote on replacing all the windows and it's gonna cost me a little over $2200 for the windows and installation.

If it does come to replacing the windows I'm gonna be back here asking how to remove the windows from the doors so I can save some cash.

Thanks Guys.

Im sure anything will come off of glass. If worse comes to worse, you could buff it out. I know dealerships do something to get the haze of of headlights and they look brand new again..

I dont know whats going to work in your situation but hees some tips I use.

1)Newspaper
2)Alcohol
3)Goof Off (dont get on paint)

based on his description, its alot more involved than getting off mineral deposits for which these recommendation work great. On headlight if yall want to know what is done for headlight. you tape off surrounding areas of headlights, use a electric sander(I used Black and Decker Mouse, $33 at Walamart) then sand the plastic headlight haze down totally with 300 grit and work your way up after the top layer of old rough plastic is removed. Work your way up to very fine like 1000-1200 and then with buffer use rubbing then polishing compounds and finish off with plastic wax glaze/protectant and youre rewarded with light that look brand new. We do this daily in detail dept at work.

You burnt or etched the glass. Did that once with my 2000 Honda Civic Si way back when. I also etched my Mercedes C class with that and steel wool. I found a way for the civic but didnt bother with the Benz. I'm not sure exactly how I fixed it but I redid my windsheild with the remover to reburn it, If that makes sense. It actually got rid of it, now Im not sure how bad you etched into your truck but try using window polish and a pad first. If not ask your local detail shop how they would go about fixing/covering/maintaining it.
EDIT: Didnt realize you were in HI, try going to the Malco distributor (near airport/nimitz) and look for window polish by malco. It's real watery and bright pink. It's what we used at Honda/Acura and BMW.

Wow, i didnt get the emails from this site when people replied. Sorry.

Alright, what happened was I had 3 different people try 3 different things on the windows and nothing helped it. One used a plain window polish, another used a more aggressive window polish that has the ability to take out scratches from wiper blades and the third used a heavier polish that is mainly used on house windows. I'm going to be replacing the windows....

Does anyone have a write up on how to remove the side windows? The truck is manual windows so I'm assuming it should be easier then power.

Thanks again

Did you try vinegar first?? No one mentioned that yet. I use a 50-50 mix of white vinegar and water sprayed liberally on the glass with steel wool 000 grade. Scrub scrub scrub, keep it wet while doing it, then wipe down with microfiber. After doing that they should be good to go. The key is to KEEP IT WET while using the steel wool. So keep the spray bottle in your hand while doing it and keep the truck IN THE SHADE!! A garage is preferable, but a shady spot will do. This should work, because the acid in the vinegar will eat up the etching and you are basically resurfacing the glass.

After that is done, rinse the bejeesus out of it, dry it, and seal the glass. For a cheap over the counter spray, go to Autozone and get the Eagle One Nanowax spray. It works like a champ.

Glass Oxidization and etching caused by leaving hard water spot remover on too long:

Solution: Apply specialized oxidization removal products i.e. Restoro, Sorbo Stain Remover, Winsol CC550 or BIO-CLEAN. *After choosing a product, please read and apply the manufactures stain removal suggestion. The following procedure is “suggested” to give you an idea of what needs to be done to restore oxidized glass and is not to be understood as “the one, right technique”.

Step 1) Apply product to a clean damp rag, sponge, or white nylon scrub pad and work into the glass using a circular motion until the chemical “dries out” while rubbing.

TIP: Always apply product to a small, inconspicuous area to “test” for adverse or damaging reactions between the chemical and glass.

Step 2) Wipe excess product off using a clean, dry towel.

Step 3) Use your professional window cleaning products and tools (i.e. soap, strip washer and squeegee) to rinse excess chemical from glass. This step will also neutralize the restoration chemical, halting any danger of it damaging window’s surrounding surfaces. Repeat steps 1 through 3 if necessary.

This restoration process leeches the glass and restores it to it's proper P.H. balance leaving you with a crystal clear sheet of glass!

Caution: Make sure to read the manufacture’s warning when using restoration chemicals. Although, many of these chemicals are biodegradable and environmentally friendly, some may require the use of Acid Resistant Rubber Gloves and Protective Goggles. Also, you can use an electric buffer to apply restorative chemicals, but be careful, this may leave etched circular marks in the glass. My advice is… Apply the product by hand using protective measures - goggles and gloves.

This has worked for me on several clients situations.

It's worth trying to save yourself the thousands for new glass, if you have to go that route and this above tried and true method doesn't work for some reason....buy your glass from a junk yard or online ...it'll be alot cheaper than $2200.......

I'm gonna try out the vinegar thing when I have some time. If that doesn't work I'll try that very detailed explanation.

I ended up finding someone selling their windows from a 99 frontier and got the two front windows. Cost me $90 for both front windows and I changed them out today. I'm gonna be practicing on the replaced windows....I think that either way, I'm going to be replacing the windshield.

Thanks guys
