I know, I know, zombie thread...

So I had these in mind forever and finally bought them thinking how great they'll be, but reading some of the stuff on here I'm thinking I should have just bought some of the Katana H11s and some Lumin-x to see if I like yellow, after all.

I've got Katanas in stock headlights, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if the Sports will be brighter than my headlights, all other possible issues notwithstanding.

Katana's in the fog lights aren't even CLOSE to being anything like the SS3 Max's.... I ran a few bulbs in the stock housing and the SS3's sh*t on everything I've seen in person for an aftermarket fog light... the widest and brightest while still being street legal!

It was my understanding that the SS3 MAX wasn't street/DOT legal in fog light trim as they exceeded the brightness maximum. Is this a state-by-state issue...or my misunderstanding? That said, I have the SS3 Max and they're breathtaking.

(separately googling and came across this nice thread on the SS3 Max)

I think that's one of the best breakdowns I've seen about lights on the internet..... NICE find @raymond~

SS3 Sports will definitely be brighter and shine more usable light on the road than the OEM halogen headlight + Kaana LED combo. Any LED + halogen housing combination will never be as good as a true LED projector, ever - I tried the Sports first, then I eventually went with Pros (because there was a sale).

I recently installed SS3s - to be specific, the Diode Dynamics "SS3 LED Fog Light Kit for 2009-2021 Nissan Frontier" in Pro flavor (with both the white and yellow SAE fog lens options). Coming from previously having Rigid Industries D-Series LED fogs (and Morimoto XB-Series LED fogs before that) IMO the SS3 Pros are superb in augmenting headlamp illumination on the road. Although I have projector headlights now, I did drive around with the SS3s and the OEM Nissan halogen headlights (with Katana LED bulbs) for awhile and they are worth it.

What I wouldn't recommend is any colored lens film. Clear film on white or yellow lenses are perfectly fine; don't waste money on yellow film to turn clear lamps yellow, because you may be changing color but you're also losing 80-85% of your LED light output just by putting on the colored lens film.

Off-topic: Man, I need to update my build thread. :p

@raine As always, thank you for the detailed account of both sets! That was exactly what I needed.
No problem buddy. IIRC DD has some good videos on YouTube showing brightness differences between the Sports and Pros, I watched a lot of their videos before I made my purchase

Good morning!

All Sport, Pro, and Max SS3 fog light kits and pods are SAE-compliant for legal on-road use when aimed properly.

These lamps are the widest fog beam pattern on the market and the intensity is uniform throughout the pattern compared to other options.

Other options on the market claim to be brighter due to a hot spot in the middle when obtaining readings but the intensity quickly tapers off on the outer band of the pattern.

Additionally, the SS3 Pro does have a slightly taller beam pattern compared to the tight pattern of the sport or max power level.

We hope this information is helpful!

About this, I have a question: doesn't the lens type (beam pattern) play a factor in being SAE-compliant or not?

Yes, our SAE-fog optic is designed to be road legal in our sport, pro, and max power level when aimed and mounted according to state rules/regulations.

Our SAE-Driving is designed to be a road-legal supplemental high beam in our sport and pro power level but the max is excluded to the intensity being above regulation.
