What all has been done tune up wise?
You know....plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, pcv valve etc.

How old(mileage) is the fuel pump?

 

Not really sure about the fuel pump mileage, plugs cap, rotor, and plug wires where done last year, wouldn't the fuel pump code though?

 

Really hoping its not the fuel pump, looks like the best way to get at it is by removing the bed, thats not going to be fun

 

How many miles on the truck, assume original fuel pump. You can plumb a fuel pressure gauge inline. I then ran it up the cowling at the back of the hood and taped it to the windsheild. Drove around with it so that I can monitor my pressure are various rpms, speed and load. THis will tell you if the pump it working.

I replaced a sender on the fuel pump once on my hardbody. Have to pull the pump all the way out. Flipping the bed seemed daunting at first but is is actually pretty easy. Dropping the tank isn't that bad either. THe 4 bolts are easy, it is the hoses that are the pain.

NEver even thought of that. When I did my bed tilt I went to the side. I was tracking all kinds of issues and had the bed tilted at least 3 times. Got to be pretty good at it. I recall being able to get it up in 5 min or so.

Not tough at all...unless you do it alone.
There are 6 bolts in total securing the bed to frame. 4 need to be removed and the other 2 closest to the tailgate end just need to be loosened.

 

Any idea where the pcv is located?

 

Of all vehicles that I've ever worked on...the pcv valve for the KA engine is in most difficult place to access.
Right next to the oil filter. I hope you don't have huge hands.

I'd go for the fuel pump. Last I looked into obd2 on a 2000 Frontier, they didn't use the fuel pressure inputs. Being you replaced the fuel filter, I'm betting on the delivery. Could be a pump, or electrical side. Relay, or wiring harness. That's the tough part. Chances are, if it is a wiring issue, it would probably be at a connection point, pump or ecm.

Checked my fuel pressure, i am running between 35 and 40 psi, seems to be right where it should be, i replaced the fuel pressure regulator, pcv(wonderful idea locating it behind the alternator), i broke down the throttle body and replaced the three gaskets(cleaned everything), replaced both idle air control valves, the throttle position sensor, and the MAS airflow sensor, replaced every hose, and the thermostat (another good location(behind the power steering pump)), and every time i shift into gear my idle goes up, i have a code P0171(cant remember which bank), this truck is driving me nuts.....

I didn't want to have to wrench on the exhaust again so I decided to replace them back when I replaced both cats.

Mine is 04 KA24DE.
Verify part numbers for fitment first if you want em.

The attached pic is an excerpt from the Haynes manual and I've never checked the FSM to see if it says the same.

 

I wouldn't spray anything directly into todays modern electric throttle bodies, but no problem spraying cleaner on a shop towel and wiping the carbon ring around the throttle plate off. Don't move the throttle plate without first seperating the connector and neg batt cable. Best to remove body and clean on the bench.

 

The codes have changed, now have 1 for MAP sensor(i changed this sensor), and 1 for throttle position sensor(new sensor also), will a hard reset fix this?

 

There's re-learn procedures in the manual for both these items when replaced, look in chptr EC.
