Here is my expierience with long trailers...used a friends 31 ft. enclosed trailer and pulled with my '05 CC both empy and with approximately 6000lbs. with no sway bars attached and once I hit 60 that thing was throwing my truck all over the place, so had to keep it at 55. Good thing I wasn't going far.

I tow a 24 travel trailer that weights in at 4300lb when loaded. I use a weight dist. hitch but no sway control. The 24' doesn't push me around too much, but any longer and I would definately look into sway control bars.

There are two ratings for hitches. One is the hitch alone and the other is a rating for load distributing. A class 3 is rated for 500lbs tongue# and 5000lbs trailer weight. If you use a weight distributing hitch you can tow up to the vehicle max of 6500lbs. The 05' and newer Frontier's are only rated to tow up to 5000lbs without a weight distributing hitch. If you want to tow more than that, you need to invest in a weight distribution system. You can get them at Nissan, U-Haul, Farm supply stores, and i'm sure hundreds of other places. I have found they run between $300-$400 bucks.

You nailed in Formula.

I agree. Formula nailed it. Couldn't have explained it better. Quite alot of $$ for a WD Hitch to get that extra 1500 pounds though. But I bet alot of people are towing close to the 6500 max without one thinking the reciever itself is rated up 6500.

I think someone here once said that the Fronty uses the Titan's tranny. I thought that was pretty impressive but I couldn't find any official documentation confirming this.
The Titan tranny shares the same bell housing as the new VQ. The VQ40DE and VQ35HR which are not the same as a VQ35DE.

(thats alot of VQs!)

I've put my frontier to the test and i was impressed with it towing abilities. I pulled my new 6000lb 33 foot RV 450 miles, and my frontier is still alive. I was able to maintain 65-70mph in 5th gear while getting 9.5 mpg. The trip was 90% level ground, and the hills slowed me down a lil bit. I dont plan on pulling this thing often so I have no need to upgrade to a titan. Nissan makes a damn strong truck.
nice rig,we looked at several trailers like that before deciding to go the opposite route and pulling the truck behind the camper(32'class A)the only drawback so far is we lose the extra storage and bunk space you would get with a comparable sized travel trailer but so far we are having a blast with it.

Awesome! That means I should be able to pull this with no problems whenever pops takes his truck out of town!!

you shouldnt have a problem with that. i towed this for a buddy about 200 miles and didnt hardly feel it. couldnt use sixth gear at all except for the flats.

Towed my new boat on Saturday.

19' 2800 lbs dry, 3200lbs with fuel and gear.
Towing weight estimated about 4000lbs.
Trailer has surge brakes.
Want to check my tongue weight but barely squatted the rear suspension.

Towed real well and the trailer brakes are a must with this kind of weight behind the Frontier.

You may be able to pull that much weight without major problems, but a 33 foot travel trailer is WAY too long for a truck with a 125" wheelbase. Seriously, if you must do it, be sure you have a good sway control setup (2 friction bars minimum for any TT over 27 feet) and stay away from passing semis and don't go out on windy days. Go to rv.net for more info. Really, 33' travel trailer is too long for even a Titan. Be careful!
Don't forget the wheelbase to overhang ratio which is more important than wheelbase alone.

Hi: All...Here's what I tow!!! Trailer weight is 3000#'s ready to go camping. The hitch is rated at 16K and is a roller type but I never use that. Nissan says it's not adviseable to tow a fifth wheel trailer with a Frontier...but I bet they've never seen one this small or light weight. I usually stick to 2000-2200rpm in 4th. or OD. Gets me the best mpg's Heading to the east coast end of this week.

Over the limit

I had Uhaul install the class 3 hitch as they stated they did not have a class 4 for the frontier. The rep stated their car transporters where light at around 1000 lbs so i fiqured i would come in right under the 5k mark with my car right at 3700lbs. When they were hooking up the trailer i looked on the rail of the trailer and it had the trailer weight at 2200 lbs. It was too late to turn back so i made the 500 mile trip pulling 5900 lbs. Honestly it pulled very well and i traveled at around 60 mph at a little under 2k all the way with little effort. I was impressed.
