Tail Light Problem

My taillights quit working last night. Fuses are al fine and the turn signals and brakelights work fine. I check the fuse under the hood and it is ok. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Could it be the relay or is there another fuse somewhere else? Bulbs are fine too.

Is there a crack in the lense and/or water in the inside? Believe it or not, there was a thread on here last time sometime where the taillights failed due to a smal crack in the lense and water getting into the system. It was bizzare and the dealership wanted to deny service. I don't recall the final outcome though...

I read over on the Titan site that on the back of the brake pedal there is a clip that you can unplug to disable the VDC or whatever it is called that limits the amount of power going to the wheels when the brakes are applied.
Which you said your brake lights work though.

I say this because they said when it is unplugged the brake lights don't work. So you might check in that area!

Other than that it could be something in the switch on the column.
Do the parking lights work on the front?

Sorry guys, I was on vacation and had a lot of things going on and had to get ready for the AC boat show so I still have yet to tackle this problem. I also haven't been driving at night either.

Frontier2 - It's an 06 NISMO. I will check later about the tag lights. I have no running/parking lights front or back but my turn signals flash and both filaments on the bulbs are good. Dash lights work but lights for HVAC do not.

Gravititan - Like above no parking lights work and I couldnt find anything about the switch. My brake lights work fine too.

Hoping to get it taken care of tomorrow be fore i have the show for 4 days in a row...

Well, got the truck fixed last week. The problem was I had a wire I used temp. to run lights on a trailer. I got the nissan harness and cut the old wires and ment to remove them, but forgot all about them. Well they ended up touching and grounding with the chasis and cause a short. It shorted out the 2 different control units and therefore shut down the parking lights. It took the nissan tech almost 2 days to find the problem and when the did they had to replace both units. My uncle works as a manager at the dealer so I got very lucky. They warrantied the expensive unit ($700) and labor saying the truck kept shutting off. All I had to pay for was the cheaper unit and the labor to install it. So the whole thing cost me about $350.

OK this is real weird, I didnt know other people had this problem.

My front parking lights dont work, my rear tail lights dont work, and my HVAC/ radio/ shifter lights dont work, however the radio itself works, as do the turn signals and brake lights.

I have not cut any harnesses or anything that could have shorted the tailight out though. I have checked all the fuses, and they are all fine.

RamAirGT22, do you know what control units they replaced?

Rustic, have you had this fixed yet? Any more info?

I cant leave my truck at a dealer, because its my only vehicle, so I need to fix it on my own if its something easy.

This should be a good reminder for everyone that cheap isn't always the way to go.Buy the Dealer harness and be done with it,or it may cost you in the long run.I had a new Xterra come in the shop and he had U haul add his hitch and wiring. He was blowing fuses, they had tapped in behind the tail lights and made a big mess back there.3 hrs labor + BCM sub harness, relay harness, relays and tail harness later and he was on his way.He could have saved 3 hrs labor if he would have installed Dealer parts, instead of going to a butcher shop.

I wanted to say that Dwayne but it sounds better coming from a Nissan tech that actually sees the outcome of improper wiring.

Total agree. I was in a rush to get it done and paid for it. Worst part is I am usually very good with these kinds of things. I just totally forgot about it, that waws my problem. I believe it was the BCM whcih was the $700 part and another competer that was the backup incase the BCM shorted,

Yeah it makes you wonder why they go through the hassle, and most of the time they pay for it twice.
True. I can't justify shortchanging my new truck to save a buck. I feel that my truck deserves OEM parts when it comes to things electrical. My whole OEM towing kit still cost less than the $400 sticker price by doing it myself.

Mine came on the truck and that was one of the options that i wanted.Since i got $3,400 off the total sticker price,i felt like i got a good deal. Now that i'm a Nissan employee i'm looking for a even better deal on my next truck.
