Can anyone help explain how I can remove the door panels on my 06 Crew Cab so I can change out the speakers. Thanks a lot.

As per service manual:
Front door
1. Remove power window switch assembly.
-disconnect harness connectors.
2. Remove pull handle escutcheon.
-remove pull handle cover, then remove door finisher screw.
4. Lift armrest upward to release clips and remove armrest.
-remove screws behind armrest.
5. Release clips and remove door finisher.
6. Remove pull handle/lock lever assembly.
-disconnect lock lever cable and pull handle cable from lever assembly.

Rear door
Same but just add to 5.
-disconnect the rear door tweeter.

This truck is the easiest vehicle I've ever seen to remove the door panels. I've done it 3 times and it's been really easy every time.

I'm sure you know this already, but in case you don't -- the 6.5" speakers won't fit in the factory openings without an adapter plate.

Well, I guess he *COULD* be putting them in the rear doors, but that would be a total waste of time if the fronts aren't changed, too.

The front opening is a 6x9 -- I assumed that's what he was talking about.

Ill get some pics of the bike up soon. My buddy is giving me 6.5"s which i was gonna put in the back and then order new 6x9's in the front. The stock system sucks i cant wait to get rid of it. It might be time to sell the bike so I have the money to lift the truck and put the tv in the dash and all the other extras I want.

msbullyfan: easiest door panel removal i've ever done was my dakota, pop the retainer off from behind the manual window crank, remove crank, two screws come off, one in the armrest the other in the sail panel, pull... that's it, lol! my ram was almost the same except there were two screws in the armrest/pull handle, and one torqx on the door release handle... the rears were very easy tho since it didn't have the seat belt on it, one screw behind the inside door pull and then remove the panel...

Interesting that the Cutchfield documentation reads that there are two different factory tweeters atop the dash. I guess the fancier looking one is the Rockford Fosgate product. I wonder if they reproduce high frequencies any better than the low-buck stockers in my SE?

My stock volume and bass are fine, but there's no high end. A tweeter swap would be real easy, but I suspect it wouldn't do much. Has anyone tried?

I thought the EXACT same thing when I saw that. I've replaced EVERYTHING in my system (door speakers, added amp/sub) except the factory tweeters. This might be the next step.

However, it really doesn't make sense to just add tweeters, because I'll have to go to the trouble of adding crossovers anyway. Might as well add a set of components.

I just looked at the Rockford Fosgate website and they offer no tweeters whatsoever that I can find. But they do have a page on the Frontier that's at:

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/oem/frontier.asp

I wonder what the screw hole and depth specs are on the factory tweeters? Maybe someone makes a better quality tweeter that would fit in place without a lot of fuss.

RF doesn't make stand-alone tweeters.

You could install just about any brand tweeters in there without a lot of fuss IF you don't install the crossovers (like the factory system - it doesn't have one). However, it will reduce the sound quality quite a bit, I'm sure.

That was my next question -- you read my mind. Hmmmm - I wonder where R.F. sourced the higher grade tweeters? I guess without a crossover, a tweeter tries to reproduce whatever it can, resulting in good but-not-great high frequency reproduction. I might pop the little grille off and see what's beneath in terms of where the screw holes are and what depth there is to play with. My truck has been very tight and free of rattles, so I'm a bit nervous messing with anything.

There's no telling. Nothing in the Rockford Fosgate system is actually made by Rockford Fosgate. If you read the fine print at nissanusa.com you'll see that it's "tuned" by Rockford Fosgate.

Everything else you said is 100% right. I wouldn't worry about making things rattle just by popping off that speaker grille. I have the base-model tweeters -- they do absolutely NO GOOD whatsoever!
