Welp, 2.5 more hours in the nice service lounge today.

They got the headliner trim piece in and it has at least stayed on until I got home.

They also updated the head unit firmware so hopefully the rebooting is resolved.

As far as the arm rest, the part came in but did not repair it satisfactorily so they are going to replace the entire armrest. Parts on order.

Pointed out the crooked emblems. Parts now on order.

My salesman and the SM came out to talk to me and express their concern about all my issues. I asked them to make me a good deal on the silver 2011 sitting out front (my old Frontier).

They assured me that everything will be taken care of.

I hope so. Maybe this next round of fixes will finally get it to where it needs to be.
At least the dealership is working for you in the right direction. Maybe the next trip will be your last.

(I had to have the dealership replace the passenger front seat in my Pro. For some odd reason the seat back was warped. When measuring from the seat back to the front of the seat the left was 1" longer than the right. I noticed it before measuring. The fabric lines didn't line up. Driver seat was fine. Dealership replaced with no hesitation.

Hope all gets fixed for you. I enjoy my Pro every day that I drive it.

My 2018 has the rockford fosgate stereo, too and it has rebooted twice in the past couple weeks. Mine says it is trying to do some type of update. I haven't been to the dealer yet... Unfortunately, Hurricane Micheal wiped out the dealer and they aren't back up yet. I could go to Ft. Walton Beach dealer, but I think I'd rather wait to get it looked at locally. Hopefully, it doesn't go completely out before then.

Post up some pics Doc Z.

My 1st Frontier was 2004 auto 4 banger. Into the 2nd week of owning it the steering column locked up in park. Dealer picked it up with a flat bed.
Other than Pink Milk Shake - $4600 out of pocket and timing chain tensioners - $2k ish out of pocket, my 2006 Frontier has been good... ::wink::

I'm going to test drive an 18 P4X 6spd manual next time home.

Man reading all this sucks. Be glad the dealership is working with you, I've dealt with dealerships in the past that basically said not our problem. Which then ended up with me having to call and e-mail the north american headquarters 8426784578589453789342786 times. (won't be getting another VW ever)

Regardless, I hope they make everything right and you end up with a bit-chin truck.

More excitement today.

On the way to church this evening and there was a loud POP somewhere inside the dash and the cab filled with the smell of burning electronics, to the point where we had to open all windows and the sunroof (all electronics are still stock, right at 1k miles)

Nothing electronic seemed to stop working and I never saw smoke (but it was dusk) but the smell was very powerful.

Now it's sitting in the driveway (not putting this thing in the garage just in case it decides to take up smoking) where tomorrow it will get a free tow to the dealership.

Oh Joy.

Edit: Just looked at my first post in this thread on Oct 25 and noticed I said this...

"Now it makes me wonder if they can't get the easy stuff right, how bad is the major stuff?"

Needless to say now I'm really starting to think about this.

Also...

"Nissan USA has contacted me to say that they will "expedite" getting the parts to me."

Remaining parts still have a 1 month+ ETA.

I understand what you’re going through though never had it that bad. After that I would tell them I want a loaner.. same type of truck and tell them when it’s fixed right to give you a call and an extended warranty because now you do not even feel safe in it.

And the loaner...

Edit: Now I've been driving the Titan for a couple of days (still no word on my Frontier) and several things I've noticed.

Size: This thing is HUGE. Tons of room.

MPG: I thought my Frontier was thirsty. This is definitely thirstier.

Stereo: This is an SV model and the stereo in it blows away the Rockford Fosgate in my Frontier.

Sound: The V8 sounds glorious. I love to hear it. I kinda wonder if that has any bearing on the observed MPG?

Tech: No comparison, the Titan is light years ahead in this regard. From the dash displays to the 8 speed automatic, I truly wish the Frontier had some of this tech. That said though, I still prefer the Frontier overall.

Got my truck back today.

No problem found, can't say I'm surprised though.

They didn't take apart the dash and look inside because they couldn't duplicate the issue.

At least it is documented if it ever causes an issue down the road.

I have to say though, after driving the Titan for a few days, I really like my Frontier even more.

If they can handle all these niggling little quirks I can love this truck again.

Here's hoping.

While the dealership understands your discomfort with your new purchase and are really wanting your future business and satisfaction, I would seriously discuss with them trading in the new lemon for a different NEW Frontier on VERY favorable terms for you. I have done this in the past, and was willing to "eat" a $500 loss … it was peanuts to me compared with keeping a brand new vehicle that I couldn't trust. (and I figured I just "rented" the lemon for a month for $500). Seriously …. if you aren't comfortable with the truck, get rid of it FAST and make the dealer work hard to gain your trust and future business. The longer you wait, the worse you'll feel and the more money you'll lose. This one is obviously a LEMON and you will never trust it again. Take a small loss now and get away from it. (oh, and test-drive the new truck AT LEAST a hundred miles and maybe for a whole day before you buy it …. it's my Number One rule anymore … I don't care if it is "brand new").

Yes, this has happened to me AND a close friend, so don't hesitate.

To be honest, I really like this truck (surprised myself at how I was ticked at it and ready to dump it but after driving the Titan for a bit fell in love with this one again, which is why I originally
bought it ) and will probably just discuss if they will provide an extended warranty on this one.

After only 2.5 months the parts finally arrived.

Now all the parts have been installed and I have a functional rear armrest that doesn't fall into the floor when opened.

They also replaced the badges and now they are nice and straight.

Only 3 real issues remain now of which one I will hopefully resolve soon:

1. Head unit has started randomly rebooting again. This I don't care about since I will be installing my Android Auto Kenwood as soon as I get all my adapters.

2. Still a bit apprehensive about long term reliability due to the electrical glitch that happened.

3. Truck has almost 2k miles and average MPG is 13. I had hoped it would improve after break in. The 2011 I traded in averaged 16-17 over the same driving patterns and had a lot more pep (I don't have a commute so the vast majority of my driving is short trips). Did anyone's MPG start to improve after XXX miles?

MPG is usually a factor of driver habits. Mine gets between 16 (towing usually) and 22 MPG (rare indeed but has hit it). But being a mature (read old) driver my jack rabbit starts etc. are behind me... LOL Good luck.

I'm with Dr. Z on this one. My 2018 PRO4X has been a major disappointment too. Because of the lack of help from the dealer and NISSAN customer service, I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN,,,, EVER. As you can see, my list is long.

Here's one for you Dr. Z: Do you have ANY grab handles on YOUR side of the truck?? Above your left ear up on the cab, or, on the 'A Post' up by the windshield?? I don't ! Dealer said they no longer install the as of 2018. BUT, all of your passengers have them both. Makes it rather tough for a guy with a bad back to get out of the truck. I'll be dumping this 2018 soon.

Hey guys......... would this be a good time to tell Dr. Z how badly the exhaust system on his sux??

That's what I fear about this one as my habits haven't changed.

Same habits and same roads as the 2011 but gets much worse MPG.

No jack rabbit starts. No stop and go traffic.

Both 4x4 though the 2011 was a KC and this one is CC, which I would think shouldn't cause such a disparity in MPG.

Dr Zaius, not a big one for throwing rocks but I really feel you should speak to your dealer about lemon law and an even-up trade-in. Even if you don't get another 2018, this one just sounds like forever problems. The smokey smell from the dash incident would prob be Numero Uno on my list of major future concerns, suppose it catches fire while you're driving? I wouldn't trust it and having a truck you can't park in your garage for fear of fire is unacceptable.
MINI had some issues like that with their secondary turbocharger aftercooler water pump controller catching fire in the 2008 to 2010-ish model yrs. I know cause I had mine replaced on recall after seeing MINIs turning themselves into barbecues on YouTube videos. Imagine having that inside your garage.

I get usually 17.8 to 18.6 MPG average in a mix of in-town and highway-ish driving ( it's Baltimore Metro after all, the only true highway driving you get on the Beltway is at 3AM ), so 13-ish surely doesn't sound right. Could be the engine will loosen up after break-in but to me even that sounds pretty off. Mine has just under 70k now and the best I've ever seen was flat land, possibly a slight tail wind and no traffic lights, 24.2MPG at about a steady 55 to 60MPH over a 43 mile stretch, according to the on-board whiz-bang. Worst was prob about 15.5 in some really bad stop-n-go ( mostly stop ).

Nope. None.

Also, the 2018 models don't include the net for the cargo bin under the rear seat.

And I am well aware of the exhaust crimp.

I have pondered getting the $25 Magnaflow Y-pipe and getting it installed as I'm afraid to go to an aftermarket exhaust because of droning concerns.

At this point I'm pondering driving it for a couple of years and dumping for a Ranger after the first year bugs are out of them.

Dealer (Nalley Nissan in Cumming GA) won't do squat.

When it went in for the electrical glitch at less than a month and less than a thousand miles, I asked them to seriously make me an offer on getting my 2011 back.

They would've been glad to do it with it only costing me $12k, for using the truck for a month, and parts literally falling off on day one of ownership.

Needless to say, Nalley has my everlasting appreciation and high opinion.
