Newbie here, and yes I have done some reading, admittedly probably not enough. If there are links please share. I have the single CD, non touch radio, w/iPod I/F, & XM (not sure what model that is) and steering wheel controls on both sides of the wheel and the B/U camera. I tend to go with OEM upgrades (yeah I realize they are compromises). Our truck does not have the Rockford Fosgate (RF) system (when I first read about RF systems, I naively assumed it stood for "radio frequency", ha ha). What OEM system(s) will work and what effort is involved?

I come from the VW side of the house where when I upgraded the OEM radio/CD/XM/iPod to OEM radio/CD/XM/iPod/nav all I had to do was buy it, and add the GPS antenna. I read that it may not be that simple on the Frontier.

It looks like you'd have to do some cutting and splicing since the connectors changed in 2015, but it should work.

I'd like to install the 7" touch screen radio from an '18-'19 into my '16. Looking at eBay pictures, it seems like it should be a direct swap. Mine has XM radio (which I never use) so I'm wondering if I'll get some error message with the antenna not being hooked up to something.

For anyone curious, the OEM part number for my '16 is 28185-9BM1A and the OEM part number for a '18-'19 radio is 28021-9BS0C.

Next question: Does the Bosch nav radio need a "radio code" to be keyed in as anti-theft measure? I wasn't clever enough to ask about that prior to purchase, and the unit came without an obvious code. When I circled back to the seller, he was unable to find any code in his manual.

I bought a 2013 SL nav head unit (Nissan P/N 259159FMOB) from forum member SLfrontier (thanks!). His dash pix show the expected "Rockford Fosgate" logo strongly suggesting that the head unit does not have internal audio amplifiers, rather just pre-amp outputs. At least that's what all my reading suggests. I do some homework, knowing that I'll need a small 4 channel amp between the nav head unit and the six speakers. I decide on a Kicker Key180.4, but alas, that has been superseded by the Key200.4, a bit higher power unit for a few bucks more. I also buy the secondary connecter shell from Mouser Electronics (P/N 571-1318917-1) and a bunch of pins (571-1123343-1, also Mouser), as I will need to build up the secondary connector for the nav unit, as it is a different pin count from the display unit removed (32 pin). As I understand the secondary connector interfaces with the existing rear camera, aux port, and factory Bluetooth.

I order the "Nissan Rear-View Camera Add-On to OEM 2010-up" (Metraline P/N AXBuch-NS) from the "Wires Zone" as Metra doesn't sell to end users (sigh). I will update when it arrives and I have a chance to try it out.

I ordered a GPS antenna from Amazon, a Bingfu with "Fakra C" connector shell (blue color, just like the mating connecter on the back of the nav unit. Fakra connector shells are color coded, and clock-keyed).

In the meantime, I installed the nav unit to see what works, and what does not.

Works: GPS, iPod interface, steering wheel volume up and down, mode, XM radio (preview, I'm too cheap to subscribe). AND radio through SPEAKERS!! Seems I don't need an external amp after all. I do need to buy an updated map SD card, the nav unit reminds me. But not until I get everything working.

Doesn't work: backup camera, Bluetooth, nav radio backlight for buttons.
