Goofy gunk around front window seal

It may be it was always there and I missed it OR it accumulated later. Either way, I don't know what it is. Mostly crusty, a little sticky, and a damp rag can eventually cut through it.

I've already removed some on one side with my leatherman but will hit it again with a proper blade when I get a moment.

My first thought is someone put it there as some sort of sealer.... but it wasn't applied like it and... well.. just isn't. If organic, then it would have to have been from the Flagstaff Arizona area as that is where it was for a time before transferring to Phoenix area dealer. Some sort of tree sap crusted with dirt? There just isn't anything in my area that would explain it.

I've had the same 'gunk' on my '22. I keep my windshield very clean (and the rest of the truck) using dedicated cleaners and a rag, not just hitting the wipers. I felt as though it may have been something that was under the window seal and has kind of melted out onto the glass in the Texas heat. It doesn't just seem like regular dirt to me either. I found a sharp razor broke it up pretty well and letting cleaner soak on it made it easier to clean the remaining.

I have this around my windows too... I'm in FL and truck was a year old when I got it....

Or I should say windshield rubber.... haven't seen it anywhere else.

It's almost like too much sealant was used when it was installed and it wasn't cleaned up. Or that's what I chalked it up too... haven't tidied it up yet but want to now!!

Do you tend to feel grumpier than usualy when you have to scrape it off? And it's 105 degrees out? 😏

On a serious note though.... it doesn't seem commonplace for windshield sealant to "ooze" in hot weather on other autos... so don't know if there is a baseline to see if this becomes a longterm issue...

Here is mine... dirt def loves to stick to it.

I don't know surface temps, but interior could be 160 or more.

Butyl, if that is what this is, should be good for higher (300?), but unknown what effects the range between might have. If surface temp was close to that?

Anyway will clean it off and see if it comes back

My '22 didn't do this but purchased after peak temps (late Aug) then a rock got the window replaced.

Suspect most won't see this unless you get that hot hot sun for hours per day for days. I can mitigate a little by using the nearby parking garage while at work.

Agreed. I had scrapped some off but not cleanly, as pics show... this was some days ago (a week?) and it didn't change after. Then scrapped it it fairly clean at lunch yesterday. Today, parked in the sun on purpose and no change. Still suspect it has a limit on how much material can make its way out. Once cleaned up might be good to go.

I should have stuck around to see what the OEM looked like vs the aftermarket setup Safelite installed in the '22. It had plenty of summer moments to slowly ooze but never did.
