Component Speakers

Just a quick question to any people that have installed seperate component speakers in their doors. I was considering replacing all the door speakers with 4 woofers and 4 tweeters. That would mean installing 4 crossovers.

Where do people stash the crossovers? Is there space within the door that would not impede the movement of the windows?

I installed the crossovers for my Polk db6500 components under the kick panel on each side of the front.

If you install components in the rears, you're going to have to cut holes in the rear door panels. I don't know where you would mount the crossovers for the rear speakers (under the front seats, maybe?), but there isn't room under the door panel (yes, it will likely interfere with the window).

Personally, I don't think it would be a good use of your money to buy components for the rear. You won't hear them much at all in the front, so I'd recommend taking that money and further upgrading the front speakers and buy a decent set of coaxials for the rear doors.

Good luck. I hope it works out well, whatever you decide.

i have components in the rear. i think it was a waste of money. but, if you do chose to go that route...this is what i did. i couldnt find a nice spot for the xovers, so i ended up putting them under/behind my sub box on the drivers side. i dont have any pics.....it actually looks like crap. i just threw them under there because you cannot see them anyways. they are in the same location of where the storage box was under the drivers side. check out pic

Thanks for the replies guys.

It seems you all have CC's, are there tweeters in the rear doors? I only noticed today that there were small circular tweeter grills in the doors.

I think I will take your advice, seeing as you all think it's a waste of money and get a decent set of co-ax for the rear.

rear doors.

i know my truck has tweeters in the rear doars. i think the RF syatem has rear tweeters and the non-RF does NOT have rear tweeters.

Yep. According to the service manual, the RF system has tweeters in the dash and rear doors -- the base audio system has them only in the dash.

actually, all an inline crossover does is divide the lows from the highs, a coil is used as a low pass crossover, and a capacitor is used as a high pass. If you found out the right specs for the capacitor, it can be used to protect the tweeter. But if your going to go this route, just get a mid-bass insead of a coax speaker. Just my 4.5 cents. (You know, inflation!!)
