Coilover/radflo help.

Ok, so I have a 5 inch calmini kit on my truck and that's the only suspension mod I have. I was looking on the Calmini site and looked at the coilovers they have, and the upper control arms. I know what the UCAs do, and I plan to buy some, but I'm confused about the coilovers and radflos. Is there a difference between a coilover and a radflo, or just a different name for the same thing? Also if I was to put either coilovers or radflos on my truck, how many do I need, 2 or 4? I have the Calmini 5, so would that set me even higher? Everybody keeps telling me that they are one of the best investments I can make.

Please help me out.

ya radflo is just a brand name. this would be a very good investment but they are a little pricey. usually theyre rebuildable. prg products has the radflos, and they have one for bracket lifted trucks. as for the amount, unless youy got the new independant rear setup you only need two for the front. a pretty easy install

Yea I don't know why people do that.

Since you have a drop diff. lift you can only get the Radflo's. Everyone else has better choices like ICON, SAW, FOX, and I think king.

Just say Radflo instead of saying coilover when talking about upgrade the front suspension. I could understand if we only had one choice, but lucky we have many to choose from.

Sorry for the confusion. I was not talking about the orignal poster.
I do see a lot of other people do that and can see how he was confused about coilovers and radflos.

I knew than it was a brand name, I was trying to find out if Radflo does something different than all other coilovers.

Actually there are SAWs available for drop bracket kits, they are even 2.5s. So right now, if you have a drop bracket lift and want to use extended coilovers, you have the choice of Radflo 2.0, Radflo 2.5, and SAW 2.5.

As for if Radflo any different from Icon, SAW, or King...well each coilover is the same but different. If that makes sense. Each manufacturer will do something different than the previous. My Icons are mounted shock body up (I believe King does also) while Radflo and SAW mount the body down. Now on the 2.5 SAWs and Radflos they use 14" long springs, why does that matter? There are more spring rates/options than the shorter ones. Radflo also uses a different upper mount. Icon, SAW, King, and Fox uses an adapter to let mount it into the coilbucket...Radflo does not.

On the new x there was a topic where an ICON representative and Radflo representative talk about their coilover design and specs for the 2.5 coilvers. After read that I would prefer ICON coilovers but money talks and B.S. walks so a may have to go with the 2.0 radflo due to price.

I don't much about SAW coilovers but it does seem to be the coilover to use for the per-runner guys.

Radflo, as well as King, SAW, Fox, and Icon are all shock manufactures. I have worked with Radflo for the last couple years, through lots of R&D and brought Frontier-specific coilover to market. We wanted a perfomance coilover but we were price driven and produced a 2" diameter shock. Unitl recently there was not much of a demand for a 2.5" dia. shock. But King, Icon, and Radflo developed shocks around the same time. SAW does NOT make a replacement 2.5" coilover for the Frontier, we actually build the set-up here using custom parts. These units are all for NON-BRACKET lifted appllications. Also, all these units can be configured to work with a stock or aftermarket UCA.
As for Bracket lift applications (Fabtech or Calmini) you have a few options. We offer a Radflo in a 2" dia body for either lift with or w/o aftermarket ucas. We also offer 2.5" Radflos with internal or external reservoir and also a SAW with internal res. If you really want we can build just about any coilover for a bracket lifted application though.
As for which coilover is best, they are all great. I will not post my personal findings here though. If you want my honest opinion, as well as that of my customers that have run multiple brands, please call.

Interesting. What the SAW coilover that Calmini sells?

So will I get more lift on top of my Calmini 5 if I add a Radflo?

#14 ·
So I should buy the PRG radflos that are for the calmini kit opposed to the ones that Calmini sells?

What I guess Greg is trying to say is that Radflo is the ONLY coilover, as of now, that is built to complement the drop bracket lifts.

Sway-A-Way's are available, but Greg has to build those to fit that set up.

Am I right Greg?

I have physically seen the coilovers on a truck at one of the off-road expos. It was actually a modified Toyota Tacoma unit (you can actually see where they drilled a new pattern in the hat on thier website). But Im not aware of any of these being available yet for sale yet. They may be, but I am not aware of it.

And, as I said before, there is no stock replacement coilver from SAW. The one pictured on CM's site is only for thier bracket-lift kit (although SAW did build one pair of 2.0 replacement coilovers). And using that coilover with an aftermarket UCA will not yeild full wheel travel (flex) as there is not enough shaft movement.

Peck is 100% correct.

Maybe I am reading it wrong but this is what is on their site.

CALMINI / Sway-A-Way RaceRunner bolt in performance coil-overs for NissanFrontier/Xterra/Pathfinder. These kits feature a 2.5" dia. coil-over shock,0-3" of adjustable ride height lift, a "True Hydraulic full extensiondampener", 7/8" Nitrosteel shaft that will not chip or rust, and Nickelplated cylinders. Each coil-over utilizes 5/8" Com-10 Teflon lined steelspherical bearings and come pre Nitrogen charged to 200psi ready to installin place of the factory coil-over shock. Fully bolt-in installation

If you don't mind me asking if their SAW are a modified Toyota Tacoma coilover what SAW coilover are you using?
