I am about to change the oil for the first time on the Frontier and I was just wondering what size bolt the drain plug is. I didn't see any mention of it, though I was a bit surprised when I saw how little oil it takes...3.5 qts, which is less than my 4 banger Honda takes.

Is this do-able without using a jack just by crawling under the truck? Is the filter easily accessible that way?

Also, I don't have the manual handy but what grade oil is advisable to use now that the weather is getting colder? Is 5w-30 OK or just 10W-40 year round?

I've also had good results in some of my other cars running a 3:1 mix of conventional and synthetic. However I was thinking of just using plain old Mobil Super in this case, or are there other brands you guys would recommend?

I just did this 2 weeks ago, if I remember correctly the bolt is a 14mm(?)

Yeah 3.5 qts is about right, its not much but thats all she takes.

The filter is right under the skid plate you will have to take off. Its just a handful of bolts, very easy. And you defiantly dont need a jack, plenty of room under there.

5w-30 is what I've always used year round...

Not sure on the synthetic blend. I just run the high mileage stuff

the drain plug is 14mm
the skid plate is 9mm? (I changed mine out long ago to 1/4" SHCS)
the leaking valve cover gaskets are common. I think the gaskets are about $10 or so and takes an hour or so to change out on the right side. left side is more involved.

yup i did this a few weeks back, all the info is rite. 14mm for the plug 9mm for the skid plate bolts(be careful not to over-tighten the bolts or you might brake the head) buy a filter removal tool there is plenty of space to work there... happy wrenching.. ohh and dont forget.. collect the oil and take it to autozone for proper disposal... keep it environmentally friendly... :D
