the Calmini drop diff kit is a waste of time and money.

the lift is achieved threw lowering your front diff and installing a large rock plow they will bend when you hit a rock off road with it. Also they add a 5 inch spacer to the OEM coil. In the rear its a block and shackle combination. fit and finish is poor, customer service is atrocious.

If you want to lift your truck have a great ride on the street and be able to have a good time offroading, Titan swap with 600 inch pound coil overs in the front and an AC 3 pack aal in the rear with new long travel shocks. this nets around 3 inches plenty to clear a 33in tire (all the gen 2s can run with the weak front diff and lack of gear options) then spend your money on armor and you'll have a rig that can run some hard trails and come home at the end of the day.

Calmini has a super bad rap on this forum, they're pretty notorius for customer service and quality.

A guy put on a Fabtech lift a while back and really liked it, its a similar kit to the calmini and also an inch taller, i imagine the customer service is better as wel

But if you really want quality riding suspension, coilovers with upper arms and a 3" add a leaf OR an Xterra leaf pack modification would do you good for the rear

Wow
Only first Gens bash Calmini, but they bash all their vendors.
The 5" isn't bad but it is a drop bracket lift.

I haven't had a problem with my calmini. Other than lack of clearance up front, I have no complaints. I identified it's weaknesses and have started to improve on them....starting with 2.5 coilovers to get rid of that stupid spacer lift and factory coils I also added UCAs and a 3 leaf pack for the rear. I have gained about 3.5 inches of ground clearance at the calmini skid since doing so, but it has cost a lot of money ($1000 for the coilovers, but you can find them cheaper, and $600 for the UCAs, $100 for the 3AAL) on top of the Calmini lift kit itself. As with all products on any forum, people have had bad experiences with them and they are always more vocal than those of us that don't have complaints (take Shrockworks for example, I love mine, well worth the wait, but others hate Shrockworks and won't order from them due to the outrageous wait times). Most complaints have their merit somewhere, but through my personal experience, I have nothing negative to say about the product, the company or the customer service.

I wish I would have just done a titan swap and coilovers to begin with, but I didn't because at the time I didn't know any better. I will probably eventually add the TS to the current lift I have, but that will be awhile down the road (other plans for it first). After adding the coilovers, I really have no complaints from the Calmini kit at all.

What do you use the truck for? That is the most important question. There are pros/cons to every lift.
Well, it's my everyday rider along with doing offroad in the state forest, no rock climbing or extreme hill climbing.

What I noticed when I went out with "airbag" this weekend is that I do need to lift this truck, maybe 3" will be enough? But I was also thinking of adding some strength over OEM suspension.

hmmmm....me getting confused.
a bunch of us are getting together in a few weeks to wheel in VA. You should come and you can see first hand most of the lifts that are out there. There will be someone with a calmini, someone with a fabtech, and guys with coilovers.

I went with a 6" lift because I did not want to have to do any body trimming. But as it turns out, I still had to trim. And like frontyfan, I have also had to invest in additional suspension components to improve the handling. The PRG kit is a great way to go, as is the Titan swap. If you do one of the DB kits you will get lots of lift (except at the front diff) but the kit will be just the downpayment on the project.

In the end my truck has every component of the PRG kit picutured above (coilovers, uca's, deavers, etc) along with the DB kit. I like it, it looks great, but I really blew out the budget on that part of the build. So no locker for me, and like I said, I still had to cut metal.
