A month or so ago, I wrote about a low-speed "wobble" sound that I am experiencing on deceleration in my 2006 SE CC 4x4. The sound seems to be present only on deceleration (when there's no load on the drive line) and only under 30mph. The sound is perhaps most noticeable between 30-20mph on very smooth roads (i.e. no bumps or other road noise to mask it).

I have relatively new tires (5k miles) and had the truck aligned when the tires were put on. I had the tire dealer take a look at the tires, and they found nothing wrong except that one of them was slightly out of balance, which they corrected.

About a week ago, I crawled under the truck and looked at the drive shaft, etc., as I thought that perhaps u-joints could be causing this issue. However, I was not able to detect any play in the u-joints themselves (there was some play in the transfer case, etc. when I rotated the drive shaft.) I do have the aluminum drive shaft.

Any ideas? Am I missing something or should I check something else? The noise isn't loud, but it is noticeable even if I'm not specifically listening for it.

Thanks,

My wife Quest Van had the wobble sound like you mention and Nissan had to replace the wheel bearing. Do you hear the sound from front tires or the back? Try turning it side by side, if you hear to wobble sound more by turning your wheels side by side it my be the bearings.
I thought about wheel bearings because I'm not sure what else it could be. The sound appears to be coming from the front. I've had bad wheel bearings before on an Audi, and the sound they made was more uniform, eventually becoming a howl when they became worn enough. I may have to bite the bullet and have the dealer check it out; my local dealer is fairly decent, but dealer service visits are always expensive.

Dealer is going to cost you and arm and leg. If you still have a warranty go for it. Its covered under Power train Warranty which is 60k. If your over on your warranty then go to an independent shop and have them check it out. The part only cost under 2 bills. Its also cheaper to do it with a shop instead of dealer.

I have power train warranty left, but I don't believe that would cover wheel bearings if that's what it is; however, if it's drive shaft or something similar, that should be covered.
