Just wondering if anyone has had their windshield washer fail. I have a 2001 SE automatic 6 cylinder. My wipers work normally at all speeds and they will come on if I pull the switch to wash, but I don't get any spray from the nozzles. The tank is full and nothing is clogging the hose. Any insight would be great.

Is the pump kicking on? You should be able to hear it when you pull back on the wiper stick. If you can't have someone stand in front and have them listen.

yep. i think the washer motor has its own fuse if it isn't kicking on. if the fuse is okay then use a voltmeter to check for current at the pump with the switch engaged. if you have voltage, the pump needs replaced

i've rarely, if ever, heard of them failing so i'm thinking fuse first

Thanks everybody for your input. I'll have to do some more investigating. I'm not having any other electrical problems. I'm thinking that the motor has gone bad for some reason. I also have checked to make sure all the hoses are hooked up.

I've had the pump fail in my 2000. I took the old one apart and found that the copper nodes that power the coils needed cleaning. Despite how it looks there is a way to open it and clean the nodes. To be clear I'm NOT talking about the wire harness connectors.

Success

Hey Folks,

Just wanted to let you know that I've fixed the pump today. I removed it, and then disassembled the bottom. I found that the impeller/motor was stuck. After giving it a few good wacks it freed up. I put the motor back in and it's running like a champ. We'll see how long it lasts. Being in Congo it's hard to get parts, so I've got to do what I can. Thanks to all those who gave some input.
Until next time....

I just wanted to say that I experienced the same exact problem (Which is how I found this forum).

Giving the pump a couple of whacks worked for me too!

:)
