The rules for tinting windows in Illinois are very strict. I learned this when I lived there and was going to tint the windows on my old civic. I don't think Illinois allows any tint on the front windows, but they do allow the back windows any tint.

I live in NJ and it seems that they have the most strict policy about tint. I have had tint on all my cars/trucks and have 20% on my frontier now. I have never been bothered once about it. I think as long as you are a good drive and don't drive like and *** no one will bother you.
yeah oregon is 35% unfortunatley my rear windows were tinted in cali where the limit is 70, my rear windows are at 41% LOL.
ive been getting pulled over a lot here latley, im still waiting on my custom plates, and so im still running around with a trip permit, well my windows are so dark you cant hardley see it and ive been getting pulled over left and right for no plates untill the cop walks up to my truck and sees my permit. but they never check the windows, they just say oh sorry i didnt see it, have a nice night and walk away. so no biggie i guess lol. i just wish my damn plates would get here!!!!

DivaLisa, looks like IL law doesn't allow front tinting. That's too bad...it does look nice. Helps with the heat too. I have mine tinted so it looks just like the back and rear windows.
Check with an Auto Tinting Co. in your area, they should be able to advise you if there is any leadway. In TN the law says 35% but they will let you go 30% (alittle darker) without any problems. I've heard of guys with darker tint, 20% getting stopped and having to remove it. Never hear of anyone getting a ticket around here though.

lol i got pulled over all the time for my car i had a 2000 maxima hooked up with 10% tints all the way around with a 8" drop on windshield..... but i am also a fireman so 99% of the times i would not get a ticket, cept for one town :[ banged me for 300$ for tints and no liscense plate in front of car.... but im also thinking of gettting my truck tinted now but i was wondering does anyone know what % is factory in the back? cuase i dont wanna go too dark in front and then the back will look light i wanna eiter keep the same or go alittle lighter in front...

My daughter had 20% on the sides and back of her Mustang and 35% on the front windshield, and never got stopped! She had it done in GA and it was like that till she sold it here in Indy.
I have 30% on my front windows and have not had any problems, and they match the front pretty close.

Does the 30% tint match the rear windows or did you have to add tint to the rear windows as well?

I just had the driver's and passenger's doors done, if you click on the pic above to enlarge it, you can see they're pretty close when you compare the siding on the house, as seen through the windows!

I had 20% on mine and you can't tell the difference. I am not sure if there are some with 30% and some with 20%. As far as I could read I am the only one who has 20% factory. 
I have 5% limo on my doors,and over the factory tint on the side and rear windows.
I'm in FL and it is very illegal,but I live out in the country...I have been lucky so far,no probs.The light a-pillers inside help make it look less dark from the front.All you can see is my hand on top of the wheel ,if you are lookin from in front of the truck.
The side cab windows ,and back look like they are painted black from the inside, :roll:
I have always had dark tint on my vehicles and am used to it,but would not recommend it ,as it is very dangerous at night. :!:

that's true, i lived in jersey city, i've seen a lot of car/truck here that have front window tinted. i just wonder if they will pass the inspection.RamAirGT22 said:
