I'm getting ready to order my new JVC headunit with their add-on HD radio box for my 2010 KC SE. Is there enough room in the dash somewhere to put it, or will that box have to go under the seat like a sub? Where do you recommend putting it?

The JVC KT-HD300 HD radio is relatively small -- it measures 6-1/2" x 1-3/8" x 4-5/16"

Thanks in advance!

Thanks guys! I'm likely going to be paying to have this installed, along with a set of Alpine speakers, and just wanted to know what kind of task it was.

I didn't want to be surprised by the cost of something like an amp installation where they'd have to remove seat (and possibly console), snake wires under the carpet, etc. If there's plenty of room under the dash, the cost of wiring up a power and ground, then plugging it in shouldn't be outrageous. Since I ordered the headunit from Crutchfield, getting their excellent instructions, I may even tackle the job myself...

I ordered the Alpine speakers, which apparently are direct bolt-in, from SonicElectronix, because they had MUCH better prices on the speakers - $90 less for the four speakers combined. Sonic was actually higher than Crutchfield for the headunit and HD converter, since they added on $20 because of the higher cost of the installation kits for these trucks. From Crutchfield, all the installation things were free...

I ordered the new (became available March 31st) JVC KW-XR810 headunit and HD radio add-on, with Bluetooth and USB front and rear (plus front Aux), 5 sets of RCA jacks, plus subwoofer control built-in, etc., with Alpine SPR-69C 6x9's for the front and Alpine SPS-600's for the rear. Now, I'll be anxious to get it in all installed and see how it sounds with just the 20W RMS (50W max) headunit driving it, once the speakers are well broken in. I'm hoping for enough bass with those 69Cs not to need a sub (don't want to sacrifice the space), but I can readily add an amp or sub if I need to...

I was lazy and just put everything in the upper glove box.

When I had XM and external GPS antennas they didn't work very well in the cab so ran the wire out the third brake light hole and mounted them on the roof. You couldn't see them from the side of the truck.

I originally had my BT module in the dash below the radio. But I just added Sat radio and moved everything under the passenger seat. There are a couple of plastic inserts you can thread into which I used to mount the Satellite module. For the BT module I used tie wraps thru the carpet and around the duct.

Ditto on the antenna out the 3rd brake light.

Added XM to my collection

Got a great deal on an un-tested "as-iser" off eBay for $15. And it works!
I had heard that the XM interface is better compared to Sirius (IT IS). So I figured for $15 and the fact that my Sirus is free right now - why not. Installed and activated yesterday and the XM UI is MUCH MUCH better than the Sirius one, more channel info, presets with channel name and color channel icons.
When activating Satellite radio be sure to ask for the no activation fee 5 month $20 deal - I got it with no problem at all.
:eek:fftopic:
OK back on topic - it s pretty crowded under my passenger seat now, but it all fits! Luckily I have no plans for adding HD radio.
