want to add map light/sunglasses assy 05+

My 09 KC did not come with the console in the headliner that has dual maplights and sunglasses holder. I've searched these threads and read that folks have added this to their base model trucks, but can not find much detail. I'd like to know: Is there a support bracket I need or is it already up there? Does the wiring link to the dome light in the middle of the headliner? Lastly, these assemblies are overkill expensive from the dealer. Haven't had any luck at the local salvages. Found a couple salvages 200 miles away that will ship, but I am wanting to confirm what all I need them to pull. Lastly, is this unit the same on the latest model Pathfinder and Xterra? I can't get some of the on-line Nissan parts databases to confirm this.

hey good luck, i love my sunglass holder, first vehicle i've had to have one, you definitely want that
I'm unsure because I have never taken a headliner out of a XE but the mount should be in there because it is a roof support, the console just snaps in over it. The lights do not connect to the dome light. Take the cover off of your A pillar when your "oh snap" handle is and see if there is a empty plug in there, there should be. So after this you will just need the small harness to go from the pillar to the lights. You could also make your own, its easy to do and it's only two wires.
Ok go to 264 Room Lamp :: Body Electrical :: Genuine Nissan Parts :: Frontier Parts (D40) 2005-2010 :: Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com I called them and they quoted me $45. While you have the pillar cover off pull the headliner down a little and see if there is a big bracket bolted to the roof in the center, if not it will be extra. What color is your interior? If its the same as mine, dark gray with a light gray headliner, I will send you my VIN so you can give that to them on the phone. They want this to get the correct parts and they will give you crap because yours is an XE, you can try but its just a big hassle.
Great -- Thank you for the good info. I'll pull the headliner down and see if I have the plug & bracket. My interior is the dark with a light grey headliner. Its a Suzuki, so I am not sure if the Nissan dealer will be able to do anything with the VIN, but we will see. Thanks again for the good information.
Does your Suzuki have the map lights already or just the dome light? If you have the map lights it a snap to install.
Just the dome.

I did find a good write-up on how to add the sunglasses+map light console to a vehicle with only the map light assy. Think there was a link here somewhere to an Xterra site, IIRC.

Anyone know if the headliner has the cut-out marked on the backside???
Mine did not have the cut out marked on the backside. But it was really easy to cut. I used the template I found on the Xterra thread you mentioned. Very easy to cut.

here'r a couple of pics from my roof rack install that may help you out.

The console just pulls straight down, no screws... just pop the map lights out and unplug and pull...

Here's the bracket that holds it up:

and a shot of the wiring; mine goes up the driver's side A pillar and across the windshield to the map light...

Just what I needed to see. Thanks, I appreciate it.
if you have map lights already, the bracket will be up there. BUT, to upgrade to the sunglass holder, you will need to cut the middle bar out of the bracket. You will see what i mean when you have it apart. I just used some tin snips.
if the metal bracket is not there. do you need to drill holes or are there bolts to place them
I did the same thing in my truck a few months back. Here is the post I used as a how to. All in all, I was done in under an hour.

wow thanks bud that is so much help.

i need to pull off my headliner and see if i have a metal bracket under there. My Frontier doesn't come with any sort of map light. so i have to pull the Oh snap bars out anyways to see if there's a harness.

No problem. Good luck with the work. Hopefully the wiring and harness will be there.
FYI - My truck did not have the map lights either (I wasn't upgrading to maplight PLUS sunglasses holder) -- I was going from nothing to everything.

In my instance, the truck had the metal bracket in place, there was no need to cut anything. There was no power harness -- I had to get one from a salvage yard to splice into the center "room" lamp wiring (constant+, switched from door pin+, ground). There is no need to pull the entire headliner down, unless you want to. I was able to splice behind the plastic A-pillar on the drivers side. (my truck has side curtain airbags, so removing the headliner didn't seem like something I wanted to screw with)

Also I took some rough measurements and cut the opening small, identified the metal bar (rearwards), and gradually increased the size of the opening with an utility knife until the assembly fit snug. Measure once, cut 38 times.
