I have headers on my truck which deletes that first cat on each side right off the motor, mines a 2002, that means i have two left? It didn't make my truck all that much louder id like to replace one of mine with straight pipe or a high flow get some more sound.

Yes you should have an extra set of cats right under your legs. It's an odd shaped container. The walker pipes replace these.

I'm loving Rockauto.com dearly these days. Not only are their prices very reasonable, but they are very fast at shipping your orders. I ordered my pipes on Saturday, and received them today. Not bad for a weekend and a holiday.

I sprayed the hell out of the studs and bolts, but they are still either breaking off or stripping. So now I'm forced to cut them out. So I didn't get these installed today :-( A trip to my local welding store will get me the hoses and gas I need to cut these out. Or maybe I'll just try and tackle it with a grinder lol.

Update: This is no easy task when you are snapping the exhaust studs and you don't have or know anyone with a set of cutting torches. I got the driver side done tonight after grinding 2 of the old studs flat and drilling them out with Cobalt drill bits. Its a lengthy process doing it this way, but things were so rusty on this ole '99 that there was no saving the studs. It already feels a little better with the one side done, so I can't wait to get the other side done.

I'd like to add this as well: I bought the Nismo cat-back a while back hoping for more sound and better mileage/power. I didn't notice much of a difference originally, but that Nismo looked damn sexy with its smooth bends and larger diameter pipe. The stock exhaust piping is pathetic to say the least, it's puny and junk. These replacement pipes are great, but still slightly restrictive. Too bad can't buy them with the same size diameter, and made with the same smooth curves. However, I have noticed a little more sound, as well as power, with the one catalytic converter removed, can't wait for #2 to go. It's starting to sound like it really has a cat-back exhaust.

If you took out only one cat, could that do internal damage to one side of your motor over time? Seems like there would be uneven backpressure with one cat creating it and the other flowing free. I'm sure they keep the exhaust as equal as possible for a reason.

I plan on doing this mod to my truck along with a Nismo cat-back system so is it easier to just cut off all the old hardware and replace with new nuts and bolts? My truck is an 03' and the hardware on it looks horrible so I feel maybe I can save myself the frustration and time trying to get the old stuff unbolted.

The old stuff is studs pressed into the bracket on the primary cats. I had problems with mine and ended up having to replace it with new nuts and bolts. Give yourself a few hours to work on it, cause its not a simple half hour job. Torches will probably work best for cutting out the old. I unfortunately used a grinder and cobalt drill bits lol.

Once the old stuff is off it's a piece of cake after right?

My experience with the NISMO exhaust is that it is close but not 100% spot on. Get everything up there loose and then tighten things down. Watch the back hanger and the tailpipe into the exhaust. That connection needs to be tight even though the back bracket needs to be pull out of adjustment some.

Like I said it's close but don't expect it to be 100% spot on.

The hardest part is always getting the old stuff off lol. The hardest part for me anyway. My studs were all rusted and complete garbage so I had to remove them somehow before putting my new exhaust pipes in place.

I finally got my hands on a set of torches thanks to a friend of ours and that made it much easier for replacing the secondary cat pipes. I only ended up opening 2 holes up to replace with bolts. I left the third as a stud sticking out for alignment. Once the other two holes were bolted together, it was fine and I had no exhaust leaks. I'll probably end up replacing the primaries cats and manifolds soon anyway, my manifolds are cracked.

To those who have done this job themselves... How did you get to the nuts on the passenger side pipe closest to the primary cat? I looked up there this morning and it looks almost impossible to get any kind of wrench or socket/extension setup on there.

I just bought these two pieces last night, I hope they will fit my 03 v6 CCLB.

I took mine to a local shop and they ended up cutting the pipes off so that they could get to the nuts.

BTW: If you ordered the right parts you should be ok. Mine is the 03 CC LB too and shop got them up there.

Do you recommend them with the Nismo Cat-Back exhaust?

So what's the real consensus guys... Do you think it's worth the work?
And to all of you with the Nismo cat-back system... Do you recommend these pipes with that exhaust?
Does removing the secondary cats make the exhaust sound THAT MUCH different than what the cat-back system does by itself?

The reason I ask is because I put the Nismo cat-back exhaust on my wife's S/C Xterra and it kinda drones in the cab. It sounds great but can get annoying on long trips.

I bought a Nismo cat-back system for my truck too but just haven't had the time to put it on. I'd like to put these pipes on too but don't want my truck to sound "ricey" or too loud since I drive a lot for work.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks, Brandon

I've got the Nismo with the Walkers and it doesn't really sound any louder. However, there is more get up and go on the highway.

The Nismo drones at 2000 RPMs and around 70mph. I like the Walker pipe deletes the Nismo drone can be an audio pain in the ear.

I have the Nismo and the Walker pipes. My Nismo exhaust was never loud to begin with, and the pipes did make it a little louder once I got them installed.

I did have to cut the old secondary cat piping to get to the bolts on the primary cats, only for them to break. Then I had to drill the studs out and replace them with new bolts. If you don't want to spend a couple hours under your truck replacing them, just take it to a shop now and let them deal with it. I don't mind doing stuff myself, as long as I have the knowledge to do so, but those were a pain cause of the lack of room. I would still do it again, myself.

If possible can you make a video or even a recording on how it sounds. Thank you but if not no biggie, just curious as to how it's going to sound. I'm going with this same setup once I get my fed returns back!!!

I didn't have a problem getting my stockers off with a swivel socket (the kind with the swivel joint made into the socket) and a couple of extensions. Just gotta fanangle it through some odd angles to get the socket on the nuts.

Also see if you can find a place local that buys cats if you don't plan on keeping them around, I made $265 off the 4 of mine (did AC headers as well) instead of the metal scrap yards that don't pay crap.
