Pretty simple question. I may get labelled as dumb for this, but...
Does anyone know where/if there are any chain hoist lifting points on our engines? I took a quick look at my replacement motor when I got it, and I can see any obvious ones. If there aren't any, where and how would a guy go about lifting this bad boy?

Thanks.

HaHaHa. Was almost gona do V8 swap. Then found out it's harder to get Titan parts around me than Fronty parts. Go figure, 10 times the number of Titans on the road round here vs Frontiers. And seems Andy is havin enough issues gettin things buttoned up, and he knows what he's doin. After contemplation I decided it's outta my skill level by a little bit.

Blew the motor up cause I didn't take the SES light seriously enough when it came on and I had no obvious malfunctions. Well, turns out the primary cats failed and the motor decided to snack on the pieces. Went from VROOOM VROOOOM, to CLACK CLACK CLACK. Sounds like somethin big rattling in the engine. Managed to score a sweet motor for a sweet price though. $1250 and has 30k KMS, thats brand new as far as im concerned. Its still clean!!! Add on my DT LT headers, and hopefully get Uprev and intake (prob Volant or Injen), and I should be happy enough for a while.

Andy, your just the guy I was hoping would chime in. If you didn't I was gona PM you, cause we all know you've had a motor out for sure.

Hmmm... Maybe I could make some kinda hanger to bolt off of the exhaust manifold studs? If I were to make sure I use a good number of the studs, that should be OK I would think? Im picturing something like the manifold flange with a hook welded on.

I was planning on pulling my pooched motor, stripping/swapping parts side x side with the used one, then putting used one in without headers(got DT LT), then headers on after motor in so I run less chance of bangin 'em up during motor install.

Thanks everybody.

That should work, just make sure you use a ton of studs/bolts since the block is AL.

You could also do some kind of set-up to the block just under the lower intake manifold but that would require a bit more work.

On the DT LTs, it may be easier to position them in place before you drop the motor. This would help avoid the shoe-horning of them in afterwards. Just don't hook them up to the motor until it is bolted in place.

Lastly, I am not sure but it may be a good time to replace the motor mounts if they looked "used".

Thanks Dubie and Andy.

I was thinking it would be nice to put headers on before motor goes in A)would be easier putting them on, B)the motor would look cool as hell sitting there on the floor with the long tubes sticking out :)
But it may not be too bad if I put the motor in, and then headers before all other connections??? I have an engine hoist with the balance adjustment bar, so I should just stop bein so chicken. haha.

I did get motor mounts with the used motor so...hmmm, and this thing is out of a brand new truck as far as im concerned, 30K KMs(like 19K miles).

STEVE: Ya it sucks a big nut. And Yeah, I would get on it before your truck starts to lose power. Once it starts losing power its almost too late. It just sucks it costs so much to fix. I have some primary cats that I got on the used motor. Im in canada, but when/if I decide I don't want/need them, I could possibly sell them to you for a way better deal than your likely to get even if you do HI Flow cat replacement. Shipping will prob be a little bit, but im 100% sure my price would be less than any new cats you could find even with shipping. And it would help me recoup some cash on this whole kerfuffle :crikey: Never know, just tossin it out there.

wowwww... ...

so, what if I delete my pre-cats before it happen (cheaper than new cats :D ) will i still be harming my engine? .. yikes!

I think it would be easier if you place the headers in the engine bay before dropping the motor in. This way you don't have to wedge them in after the motor is there. Also, bolting up the LT and trying to put that whole thing in there at once will probably hit everything and end up failing.

Steve. A delete pipe would be a good idea. Wouldn't be that hard either, just kind of a sucky place to try working in. Specially since exhaust bolts can be bich. And I don't know if it will hurt anything. Maybe cat code coming on all the time. Some of the guys here told me with my headers, Y pipe, and 3" in/out muffler that I may "flow too much" and have recomended Uprev. And then there is always the chance that you put in a delete pipe for the primaries, but then the second cats fail and suck that backup. I dont know if thats possible? But that is why I wanted my primaries gone and new hi flows as secondary cats. Didn't wanna take the chance of secondaries failing causing same problem. But I was too late anyhow. Live and learn.
