Warning for 06 owners thinking of Volant CAI. When I went to install it late last week, I
found out Nissan changed the location of the horns for some 06 models making it impossible to mount the air box without moving the horns. Volant will have to redesign
the box(if they had simply made it 2-3" shorter at the front there wouldnt be a problem)
or make a bracket to relocate the horns. I was able to mount the box by wedging the
horns between the box and the inner fender behind the headlight for a temporary fix.

Hmmm, that's interesting...I just ordered the Volant, supposed to be coming in today...I'll post my findings too...Thanks for the info!

I wonder if we could get a hold of a mounting bracket from an 05 frontier or something...does anyone know where the horn was mounted in those?

Kilago,

The '05 has a single horn mounted on the vertical support piece that the hood latch
is mounted on. It is mounted to a strap that sticks off to the driver's side. There have
been several people that have mounted twin horns in this location. This is between the radiator and the grill to the driver's side of the a/c condensor.

The twin horns is a modification I plan to do in the future. Not being very smart about
wiring I have not tried that yet.

Hmmm interesting...there's a dual horn setup in the 06's?? I'll post a pic tomorrow...but it's definitely in the way of the Volant install. Maybe I can move the horns to where they are in the 05's...anyone have a pic of that?

Volant Update.

Volant is getting a new 2006 in to make some changes and fix the horn issue.

I will update more as I hear more from Volant.

Thanks,
David
woohoo! I wonder how they are going to mount the horn...I'm thinking they are going to provide a new bracket or something...

Volant vs afe

I noticed that the Volant is more expensive than the afe and that it's air intake tube seems to constrict near the opening into the engine. Seems to me like the afe intake would generate more HP because it doesn't have a constriction for the amount of air going into the engine like the Volant does.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Thanks.

chargedup05,

I have a Volant and I do not see any constriction where the tubes goes into the engine.
I do not have a picture of the aFe to compare it to so I am not sure what you are talking about.

chargedup05,

I have not installed my Volant yet, but from what I have read on the forums I think most of the CAI's all produce about the same hp increase. Jason Burtman says that the Injen
CAI produces 10 more hp than the Volant, but he has not posted any dyno results to back that up.
