Ok so I was wondering....do I need these? :willy_nilly:

But seriously...I can get the Volant intake for $270 shipped and the Bully Dog Gauge Tuner for $444 with the Blend Mount shipped....how much per tank mileage increase do you think I'll get roughly?

Thursday I get my truck back on the road and shortly after that I get my tax return. So I'm getting like $1100 back and I'm selling some of my AK parts that I don't need so I should see $400ish from that....and I'm selling my YZ125 so I should be looking at $1200 from that...blah blah blah....

Convince me I need these....

:laugh:That's a pretty damn good argument right there.

Honestly though, you probably won't see any significant changes in fuel mileage. I have the Volant and Superchips, and my mileage is pretty much the same as it was before. However, the truck gets a noticeable increase in power. I feel like it was worth every penny to gain the power without the loss of mpgs. Just my $0.02.

Edit:
Just remembered this... If you do get the Volant, don't get the one with the Powercore filter. Several people have been having issues with the Powercore filter allowing too much air flow, which causes A/F ratio problems.

Just wondering, how loud is your volant? I most likely wont be able to hear it anyways with my exhaust. My exhaust isn't real loud bout it's definately loud enough to catch some attention with the way I normally drive. Have you had any issues with going through an automated car wash with the front horn intake thingy. I'm about to be ordering the Volant and Bullydog GT/Blendmount combo soon, most likely tomorrow at some point.

I have the Volant and really like it.
I have not noticed any issues going through an automatic car wash to answer your question.
What you definitely want to do though is drill a small hole (maybe 1/4" or 3/8" diameter) at the low spot on the bottom of the intake box (yes mine is drilled).
With the ram air up front it is inevitable that some water (think driving in the rain) will get into the box at some point.
This "drain hole" will allow an exit point for any water that does enter the box.

It's pretty much unnoticeable under the 2500 rpm. Once you start getting into the 3000+ rpm range it gets louder. I have stomped on the gas before and had people turn their heads from just hearing the intake. I personally don't have the ram air scoop installed on mine (just covered the hole). I didn't put it on my because at some point on the 07+ models Nissan started putting a condenser right where the scoop's opening would be. I could have still put the scoop on but just decided not to. Like ToddG said though, if you do end up using the scoop, you should probably drill a small drain hole down in the bottom of the box.

Ok so I've got it on order.....we'll see how it goes....estimated delivery is Friday....so this weekend should be a good test as to if it gives me any improvements in the MPG area. I've got to help my friend move into his new apartment Saturday. Thanks for the guidance and draining my wallet slowly! :p

Ok so I ordered them on the same day...ended up with the intake today and the Bullydog GT should be here Monday. I'm not sure if I want to install the intake later today or wait for the Bullydog GT. I was sort of thinking about seeing what the intake temp difference is between the stock and the Volant. But I'm really itching to do the install ASAP.....*sigh*..

Install ASAP or wait for the Bullydog GT?

The condenser cools the incoming air as it gets ice cold when operating...
^other way around... Air cools the condenser; it's actually hotter than ambient...

Ok so I've got it installed and I don't see why people complain about it being a pain. Everything installed so easy I'll praise their great R&D. Since I'm an 05 I didn't have to touch the horn. The only problem I had was getting that damn plastic piece off that was in the way of the intake horn. I managed to pop the top and bottom piece off but ended up breaking the thing in the middle so I said to hell with it and yanked that piece out. So now there is a straight shot to the intake horn. I noticed it has a raspy growl right before redline. I love this intake. I noticed my truck doesn't have to downshift as much to go up a hile and it seems to have changed the exhaust note to a deeper tone. Maybe it's just me on that factor. All in all for $280 I can't complain at all. Here's some vids....more to come with I get the BullyDog GT installed....

The suspicion is that the bolt hole locations changed on the trucks in the later years. People with '05's and '06's don't have the install issues the later trucks have.

Glad you got it in and are enjoying it!

Ok so today I got my Tuner and let me tell you. It's worth well what I paid for it. I have the performance tune, +2 advanced timing, bumped my topspeed up to 140, and removed the WOT restriction. When I say the intake and tuner combined have made my trucks balls drop...I truly mean it. It's like I'm driving a completely different truck. So far I'm getting 25mpg under cruising conditions and that's huge compared to me getting around 17 before these mods.

I have to ask. Do I need to wire the power cable into my fuse box? Will that make it shut off when I turn my truck off or what? Just curious is all.
