Anyone here getting the Olympic hype going? At first I really didn't seem too interested, But I'm starting to feel a cool vibe around the city as it gets closer. I went and watched the torch running by 1 block from my house the other day and it started to feel a little exciting.

Anyone going to be watching, or evene here part of the event?

My sister has tickets to mens hockey, Germany vs Swed.... but that's about it.
I know a guy that has a few tix to the gold medal hockey game, he's asking $2500 each. he has other tix for cheaper...but they are still $250 a pop
I was Downtown Van today, a really cool vibe happening, lots of people from all over the world taking in the City, National flags are hanging out the windows of the buildings where each country's athletes are staying, first thing I noticed, was everyone along the seawall was taking pictures, then I realized they were all from out of Town and out of Country.
I am going back Downtown tomorrow, going to put the Bike in the Fronty, and cruise around, maybe go to a few of the Pavilions ( hosted by each country free admission)
and have a nice long lunch somewhere.

ya, if it wasnt Superbowl I would do the same. Maybe sometime next week I'll drop in. You should see all the cops on the S2S - one on the side of the highway avery few kilometres. drive slow when heading up, Whis
I was in Canmore, Ab when the torch came by, looking forward to it.
Canmore is a cool town - if I had to be in AB, it would be somewhere like there. Close enough to the mountains and BC, not too far from Calgary

No kidding. I went in yesterday. Never seen so many red and blues. Sucks too since the speed limit is 60 in those 3 lane sections.

ya - those sections are brutal. was behind a cop the other day that would stay in the fast lane no matter waht - doing 60 or 80 exactly. i was daydreaming money didnt matter and i went flying by him as i enjoyed the sound of my Volant growling as it was sucking in the cold air.
My wife and I just came back from checking out the scene in downtown. Pretty cool atmosphere, you can really tell that a LOT of people are from out of town. What sucked about todays trip was that most of the pavilions that we stopped by haven't opened yet to the public so we're going to have to go back next Sun. btw if anyone's interested, the Vancouver Art Gallery is hosting a Leonardo da Vinci display right now and there will be free admission during the Olympics. Looks pretty interesting if you're into that kind of thing.
I wish I would've been in Lethbridge when the torch passed through. Definetly watching the proceedings on TV though, REEEALLY hoping we do well in skiing this year!
i think i am going to try to head down sometime this week, see if the germans brought some of those huge steins with them!

If you like beer, apparently the place to be is the Holland Heineken House in Richmond by the Minoru Arenas. Check it out.
got nabbed by the popo today on the way home. he let 3 audis rip by that were here for the olympics (german flags and plates) yet they snagged me. **shakes fist**

heineken house - on my list

Figured he couldn't catch them? Anyway that sucks. I feel for you... my last ticket was $450.

oh he let me off easy, too. and he made sure i knew it - he started off, "i could have given you a $400 ticket, or i could have given you a $300 ticket, but i gave you a $136 ticket and if you pay it in 30 days you get $25 off"

and while he was saying this, i asked about the new sign and what the distance number meant - he had no clue about the sign, about our highway, or about Vancouver. Looks like I will appeal this ticket and see if this policeman is still around to attend court post-Olympics. I'm betting on no
Saw the torch in Edmonton and went to the festivities when it hit Lethbridge too. Pretty cool stuff. I was still a teenager in 88, and a few of us took in ski jumping; loved every minute of it. Wish I could join y'all in Van, but money and time just won't allow. Got any snow there yet?
Mountains are doing alright. One mountain, Cypress... was in bad shape before, barely any snow. Now they trucked countless loads in and say the mountain is in "excellent condition". The city, however, is very mild. No snow in a long time... it's almost like spring out there.
it is spring here. 12 degrees today in the city. i drove over 300km today and had the sunroof open all day long. nice
