Has anyone done a valve clearance adjustment on a dual overhead cam 4 cyl?
Any tips?
Anyone know what the "cold" valve lifter to cam clearance is for a 98 Frontier 4 cyl ? The Haynes manual lists the valve clearance only for "hot" It is .012-.015 intakes, and .013-.016 for exhausts.
Mine is pretty noisy. It has 175K miles on it. I'll have to get a special tool available on e-Bay to do the job.
Thanks

The KA SOHC in Hardbodys dont ever need adjustment.
The Frontiers KA DOHC might need it at some point as they are adjustable.

I just passed 61k on mine ,and have been wondering the same thing although it dosent seem any more noisy than usual.

Are you sure it is the valve train?

Mine has 275,000 on it, and the only rattle I get is the timing chain on a downshift when it is oil change time...

The lifters are Hydraulic in the KA24DE.

There are shims on top of the lifter buckets that you need to replace to get the clearance.

Check the Factory service Manual, I'll bet it has the clearance for hot and cold
