It seems to me like I have read somewhere the following paraphrased information:

"You can add utilitrack to the bottom of the bed as it is simply drilling through the bed and bolting down.

You can't easily add utilitrack to the sides and front of the bed because you don't have the factory provided threaded holes or the extra material in your bed to put the threaded holes into."

I am sure someone will come along shortly and either support or correct my statement.

You are correct.

The rails will work in the bottom of the bed. The bed sides of the trucks with and without the utilitrack are different. The ones with the track have extra supports in them to handle the load of having something tied to the utilitrack.
