I have been wanting a toolbox in my bed, but one that fitted under my tonneau cover. Today, I found just the thing. I mounted it using the spare small size tie down cleats, and it worked pretty good.

I documented how I did it here: http://www.jeffleggett.com/wordpress/?p=50

Slick looking toolbox. I like the small size as it would be pretty easy to store. When you installed the utilitrack cleats, did you center them on the ovalized slots in the utilitrack?

I'm asking because Im installing some bike tights (bike fork holders) and found that if you don't center the "nut" part that slides inside the rail on the slots then they don't bite well. They can also dig into the metal in the slot and damage it. I had a predetermined hole spacing to work with on the bike tights so I couldn't center on the sltos in the track. I think I'll have to get different ones or fabricate something.

Just out of curiosity, why did you mount the block part of the Nissan assembly inside the box instead of outside? It would seem like there would be more of a positive lock to the rail with the block tab sitting in the slot on the rail.

I know what you mean about the bolts. I used a hacksaw instead of a Dremel.

Thie utilitrack is very handy. I have used it a few times already in the week that I've had the truck. Brilliant!

Wheres these mini track things? I got 4 big cleat things, with handwheels for loosening...

Or are they in the toolbag (which I have yet to find...)?

Guy

edit - just gone though the manual again - no mention of mini cleats over here  why do they do this to us? :x

Oh well...

I am confused, how else would it mount? FOr the skid plate of the utili track to slide up and down the rails, it has to be outside, hence making the block part on top inside.

X2
Can the sequence for attachment be:
1. Flat square piece that goes in utilitrac grove
2. Grey block that secures #1 to track
3. Tool box
4. Washer, lock washer and bolt

I realize this configuration would raise the tool box a tad, but it might be easier to slide and provide a more positive lock to the track. Or, I could be full of it and don't know what I'm talking about.
That's a nice way to go for storage. Is that a trailer tongue box?

edit: I looked at your install again. Does the weight of the box prevent it from sliding if you place the "top" block under the tool box? Is that why you mounted the "top" block inside the box?

First post from Phoenix. Nice install and great site too.

Just like to comment that you can put the stopper blocks under the box, lifting the box up slightly, but that will require shims due to the small surface-mounting area of the stoppers. I did my full width box that way so the diamond plate wouldnt gouge into or leave a footprint in the liner and floor.

I also relocated the the header track rail onto the box, thus keeping use of all five utlitrack rails and my sliding bed extender lock. Since then I have been using the stoppers as fork mounts for mountain bikes.

Again, nice job on the install and I like the choice of toolbox used. 05N1SM0
