Help me decide. I am trying to combat the hit my wallet takes with the high price of summer gas. Last summer killed me. in no way would i off the truck. but i have 2 possible solutions. help me decide, weight pros cons, etc.

i could get a uprev tune. but i was wondering, uprev guys, what type of increase in mpgs did you see?

i could also buy my neighbors 95 civic 5 speed. I know this car gets over 30 mpg, i used to have one. plus it would keep miles down on the truck. i'd commute during the week with this, drive the truck on weekends, etc.

what would you do if you were me? i would be getting the car for about the price of a uprev tune.

Uprev tune probably won't get you the (mpg) gains you might think and want.

The extra vehicle means, extra insurance, extra maintenance, extra parking etc.

Tough call, I'd probably say get the civic as long as it wasn't a complete eyesore you'd be embarrassed to be seen in.

The price of our gasoline here in the OKC area has been going down and AAA said that the price should remain low for the summer. I do not know anything about the uprev so I cannot help you there, but the price of the Honda and the insurance would probably cost more than what you would save in gasoline. I would just drive the truck and use the Honda/uprev money to buy gasoline.

for me it would be get the beater for sure. good mileage, and keeping all those commuting miles off your truck. and its always fun to have a car around that you dont give a crap about. a con would be property tax (if you have it) each year you'd be paying for one more car where you wouldn't with uprev and thats two vehicles that you have to up keep even though the upkeep on your truck would be greatly reduced. just some thoughts but i'd get the beater for sure

I agree with the beater idea. Thats basically what I did. Have a 63 mile round trip to work everyday so I drive a little Kia during the work week. Gets about 33mpg and liability insurance costs about $50 a month. Gas savings are about $18 a week, so it pretty much covers the insurance, oil changes, and etc.
But most important it saves wear & tear on my truck. I use my truck for all my weekend running around and playing. Also, about the mpg increase-I wouldn't expect any truthfully. Uprev is capable of delivering better mpg, and might save a few dollars if you keep it in the economy tune. But even though the performance tune gets just as good mpg as stock, people tend to "play" a little more with it so it cancels out any benefit. I persoanally have stayed in the 19mpg range from the day I bought my truck--though my Uprev tune, and even now with my cams. Nothing has truly hurt or helped my mpg.

how much will either option cost you? the civic will still need gas, maint, insurrance. the uprev has a cost too. Compare these to the small added cost of gas in the truck. you might be better off just using your truck and stay very easy on the acceleration. look at the over all cost of all 3 options, don't leave any details out.

I did not go with UpRev for mpg... I chose it for the ability to tune for the mod's I have done and plan to do. Outright power if you will.

I'd state you're better off getting a beater/motorcycle.
