Well to simply put it my growing boys outgrew the king cab in almost 3 years. After calling USAA on nearly 40 vehicles and test driving nearly 30 of those 40 we decided to just stick with the trucks I knew about. Ended up finding a 2013 Frontier SV Crew Cab with 53k and several options more than my King Cab had.

Went from a 2011 King Cab SV 2WD Auto with 98k to a 2013 Crew Cab SV 2WD Manual with 53k. For those of you who use USAA...check out their car buying service! Felt good having the upper hand in the negotiations as well. Even though I got under their skin with my $4k less counter offer and us meeting more towards my offer than theirs...Sunny King Ford in Anniston, AL is where I purchased it. Great experience with this dealership. We almost ended up in a 2016 F-150, but I just love the Frontier and its a truck my wife can easily manage once I teach her manual. She loved my King Cab. Only issue with mine was two boys could not comfortably sit in the backseat...no other issues and that is what I love about the Frontier.

Here she is!

They LOVE it. I can comfortably sit back there at I'm 220lb and 6'. So we are good until they reach driving age...then I doubt they want to ride with me, but rather drive.

That's odd. USAA was unwilling to help me get SPECIFICALLY what I wanted. They of course were willing to help, but when it came to a Pro-4x with standard trans as mandatory, they were all full of nopes. I ended up going with a dealership who wasn't going to lie to me and was willing to go 2 states away to find the exact vehicle I wanted, so it all worked out in the end.

They are still far and away the best insurance you can find.

Sorry it didn't work out for you. Did you use the car buying service?

I called and said what I was specifically wanting to do. The lady stayed on phone with me for 30 minutes and went through each and every vehicle that would help me in my situation. Ended up leaving that dealership when they low balled me on my trade.

Been with them under my dad for 5 years and on my own for 9 years. They treat us veterans great.

I have known what I've wanted for a long time, it was just a matter of getting around to it. I am not about to spend my money on just any vehicle though, or anything else for that matter, I get picky. In order of most important to least on my mandatory must haves for my truck, it had to be a Nissan Frontier (don't need no fullsize crap), It had to be a standard, Pro-4x, King cab, Blue, and with a moonroof. All of those options, USAA just wasn't even willing to deal with. They honestly weren't able to play ball after vetoing an auto transmission completely. So I spent 2 years working with all the dealers I could get a hold of to narrow it down to who was willing to work for me and who wasn't.

Sadly, in that amount of time, Nissan in it's infinite wisdom stopped giving us King Cabs with standard transmissions.... So I got screwed there and am learning to live with a 4x4 minivan with a baby bed attached to the back of it. It's growing on me slowly though. I was 6 months too late on that alas, and 6 months too late on getting blue as well as they stopped offering that nice shiny blue color I liked. Similar to Audi's Sepang Blue which really pops. Old truck was black and I didn't want another black, but I sure as hell don't want white, grey, silver or whatever else 99.9999% of everyone on the road is driving. I wanted something different. Had to settle on black again though ._. And then the moon roof was out as well as Nissan just doesn't offer that anymore on these trucks. Go figure.

At the end of the day, I know they are all trying to kill off the standards, so if I wanted a truck with one I had an option for a Nissan or a Toyota and I'd rather walk than buy a toyota. the new GM trucks only give manuals in the most limpwristed versions of their trucks, 2x4 4banger bottom tier package, so they were out. I don't like being guinea pigs for car manufacturers anyways and won't buy a brand new model vehicle and have to do their testing for them. Strawberry milkshake anyone?

Very happy with what I have after all is said and done. That being said, I know I paid way too much. That happens on a dealership lot when you are VERY specific on what you want, like I am. You basically lose all your leverage in the bargaining part of the deal cause they know they got you. If you don't really care and just walk onto a lot ready to buy anything they have sitting there, well then they are at your mercy. You just can't spend a couple weeks working with their sales people, and when they finally find you a vehicle, try to start haggling with them... It is what it is.

Congrats on the new truck. The Frontier with a manual trans is one great truck. Enjoy every mile.

Yeah. A Nissan dealership offered $9k for my trade and stated it would cost $2k to fix a windshield and small dent. I handed them a $500 repair quote for both and walked out. Go to a Ford dealership and get $12k for my trade.

It pays to have the upper hand and shop. I am happy with the truck I got. It matches everything I wanted except long bed and those are like unicorns around here.

Yeah I think the part I really miss the most is having a tiny bed. The truck bed in my 95 hardbody is bigger and holds more and that thing is half the weight and size of the Fronty. Other than that, I can live with what I got quite well.

Now all i ask is that it is as RELIABLE as the 95 one was. That's why I chose Nissan over all else in the first place, so this Fronty better give me 20 years of trouble free driving.

Next year Jeep will be bringing back the pick up truck and it will be available in four doors and I was told I can have my 6 speed manual transmission. This frontier may have a short stay here in my garage. I already have a 2016 6 speed wrangler 2 door and enjoy how it drives so we will see what the future holds.

I heard earlier this year, that this is the last year for the manual transmission in the Wranglers, won't be long and will know what's true and what's not true.

I'm sure hoping they don't stop next year, jeep owners do want the choice.
If only Nissan would give us the choice across the board.

I hope they don't either, not that I'd ever get rid of my TJ for a newer one, but you don't see many JK's with a manual transmission as it is now. The only JK I've ever driven was a JKUR with a manual. ::grin::
