Hey guys bringing back an old thread for a quick question. I'm still rocking my red underdash leds and they're just as crazy bright and work perfectly as the day I put them in. I turn them on every time I get in my truck when I turn the headlights on and its a habit. They were probably one of my easiest, cheapest, and most favorite mod. I've discovered that at one of my favorite electronic stores by my house that carries all the real deal stuff, they have a huge selection of all sort of leds that are high quality, but inexpensive. They have modules, strips, singles, and everything else. Today I installed my own custom dome light that I made from a led module made with 6 one watt leds and it is crazy bright. So I'm hooked back on the leds.
I just wanted to do a few more that only turn on when the doors are open. Problem is I'm pretty smart with electrical, but cannot figure out at all which wires and relays exactly you guys are talking about. So I was looking for something simpler to tap off of that turns on when my doors open. Im not concerned with the lock/unlock deal because I have the XE and my alarm is a separate aftermarket one. So my question is, would I be able to tap of the light ring that is around the ignition where the key goes in? I have like an amber ring that lights up around the key, Im pretty sure it only comes on when the door is open, which is actually kind of odd. But I can clearly see and easily get to the wires for that. Would I be able to tap off this for a (open door activated) power or ground and how so?
