Hey folks,

I had a problem with my blinker system in my 09 frontier to the point it would not return to the neutral position for the blinker. Took it in, they said cannot duplicate it. I said be back in a month...totally crapped out.

They claim the wiring connection for my trailer light hook up from Uhaul shorted out 2, not one but two (2) computer systems. Hummm, I thought if you have an electrical issue you usually find that out the moment you make the connection...:hi::thatswck:

Anyone have that issue with the Uhaul wiring causing the blinker system to fry?

Thanks:comphead::confused::confused::confused:

Welcome to the forum. If you search for trailer wiring harnesses and issues you will find that this is common. U-haul only splices into the wiring which overloads it and causes issues. The OEM set-up is the only way to go. Nissan uses 2-3 relays in the passenger side kick panel and an adapter for the already ran connector.

Also, since the mod the you had done to the truck caused the issue, Nissan has zero obligation to fix it under warranty. You will need to go thru U-haul for it to be fixed.

Please let us know how it goes and if U-haul folds or what.

Did they replace your BCM? That's what controls the turn signals and such. U Haul can and will do a fine hack job on 2nd Gen trailer wiring.

Tuff,

To give you a little bit more insight as to what is causing the issue:

The majority of "American" cars (ford, lincoln, mercury, gm, chevrolet, and gmc) use a tail light/turn signal that only requires one bulb as the tail/turn are in a dual filament bulb. The majority of "foreign" cars (nissan, isuzu, toyota, bmw, audi, etc.) use a system that has a light tail lights and a light for turn signal lights. Thust two bulbs with a single filament.

UHaul is trapped in the 60's and 70's when it comes to wiring and continues to wire as if every car was an "American" car. They also continue to use outdated methods for splicing into the existing system. Yes, they will sell you a cheap hitch. Just do not let them install it and hook it up to your wiring even if it is an "American" car. Would you let the guy behind the counter at McDonald's wire your trailer? Cause that's the typical caliber of a UHaul employee.

Yep I was lucky

You lucked out that you dealer was nice. Most would just say no and charge you a diagnostic fee.
I think the tech was new and did not know any better. After he had already told em warranty would cover it. I plan on getting the dealer to put on an OEM for me.

Zero Six LE; yes they had to change two BCM's

ffips: you nailed me on that one....I learn fast....thanks for the info, and yes when I looked up under the bed there was a rat nest of splices...Not going to mention how pissed off I am...

devious1: Yes Took out the blinkers on the truck, actually the BCM's. I know I got lucky that would have been a shiny penny to pay.

Uhaul is a joke. My parents 1st gen Xterra has a hack job Uhaul special on it. They spliced from the tail lights to a 3 to 2 wire converter into a 4 wire flat plug, from that hooked it up to a 7 pin harness. They also never bothered to hook up the other 3 wires one of which being the ground.

So some day soon I will have to go out there and undo the mess they made. But hey they were nice enough to zip tie the extra 6 feet of wires to the hitch for me.

This is why I hate letting anyone else "work" my vehicles.
