In the picture do I need to unscrew these small bolts to gain access to the filters? Also what is it that breaks easy if your not careful? I remember somebody mentioning something.

At most, there might be a screw holding the door shut.

There is a tab (that you will probably break) that needs to be gently moved to remove the door. I don't know of anyone that has not broken the tab.

The release tab can snap off. When installing the first filter I used a paint mixing stick to push the whole filter over to the right so the left one fit in easier. They sit side by side to create one piece to cover the opening.

Thanks, I figured it out right before I came back in to check for any responses. Here's a couple pictures. They were nasty, of course they have never been changed out either.

I tend to put a date in sharpie on them so if I ever wonder, I know how long they have been in service.

Heh -- GREAT question silverback -- I'm going to replace mine tomorrow and had the exact same questions as you. They've been there for 4 years now, so probably look just as nasty as your old ones.
Take the filter out for good!

I took my filter out for good about 2 years ago, and when I did the AC worked better than ever. No restriction from the paper filter. But if you have allergies then you might want to keep it in.

I wouldn't want all that crap that gets trapped by the filter blowing into my eyes. My AC works fine with the "restriction." It works fine in my Maxima and they are charcoal impregnated filters.
I just did the repacement after making my post and it took all of 15 minutes, including vacuuming out the area where the filters sit. Didn't break the clip either.

I bought Purolator filters (only thing Advance Auto had) and had to laugh at the installation instructions that directed that the engine be shut off while doing the work. Heck, I'd hoped to do it while driving. <g>

This is the first vehicle we have ever owned with cabin air filtration and I love it -- the cabin stays very clean and dust free.
Yeah, now that I know how dirty those filters can get I'll be changing them alot more often!
i had my oil change done at trophy an they told me i needed mine done i've got 80,000 on the od. they want 49.95 + tax. ha ill do it myself thank you. great post guys. Thank You
cabin filter

OK, last week had blower motor go out. During the fix I found two other things. Original owner 2005 pathfnder 117K and hate to admit, but had not changed filter. But, there was no filter to change. (#1) Nissan had never installed a filter. I have one on order.
(#2) found water under passeneger carpet. after fixxing blower problem, dried out carpet real good. checked several days without rplacing door trim and was dry until today, wet as heck. Has my evaporator gone?

LOL, I will never step foot back into that dealership. The filters are 11 bucks at O'Reilly's and it's the exact same filter.

Welcome to the club. I haven't been on here in awhile. I'm in Rowlett.

Clogged drain tube on your evaporator most likely. You should be able to see the tube sticking through the firewall on the passenger side. If no water drip from it while using your AC, it's clogged.
My truck didnt have fliters installed either. Explained alot.
Well, that answers my question of why I smell every scent out in the environment - I just went to check my filters, and found I have none.
Another longtime owner who has never changed these and/or confirmed that my truck even has them. Had it on my list but have never remembered to look for them while working on other things.

Dumb Q
How do you get the glove box door off?
EDIT: Never mind figured it out, without breaking anything! Push in on the sides to release the stops.

:idea:As a reminder to when I last changed these I tore off the filter box top and wrote the date on it instead of writing it on the filter. Just another piece of paper in my glove box.
I am pretty sure I do not want to have to get that damn clip to release just to check the date I wrote on the filter.:-?
So, I ordered some filters from aircabinman on eBay, and they should be here in a day or two. Since I couldn't see how they were removed, I don't know how they are orientated when they are installed. I'm guessing the first one slides in length-wise, then gets pushed to the right - with something like a paint stir stick as suggested on the forum - sort of like loading a magazine. I'm sure it's not that difficult, but just trying to save a little hassle, if there is any.
