Do you find the trip computer as being accurate? My truck, 09 CC LE 4WD AT, has 5,000 miles on it. I have never checked the mileage. Currently the reading is 17.6. It has dropped 1/2 mpg over the last couple months (strangely after adding a tonneau cover) and it seems lately I can "watch" the gas gauge drop. So I checked the last 1/2 tankfull and got 15.03. No change in driving pattern. 90% city. I'm not asking for advice on raising my mpg (I know theres plenty of those threads) just whether or not my on-board reading should be this far off.
Thanks

I have discovered that monitoring MPG while operating the truck, causes MPG to go down. If I ignore the Scan Gauge MPG readings and just caluculate mileage on fill-up, I see that I am averaging about 18 MPG for my daily commuting. I get around 22 when I drive long distances on the interstate at 80 - 90MPH.

Norb's rule about MPG monitoring: DON'T DO IT - you will enjoy the drive much more!

when I had stock tire size my mpg readout was accurate. It's useless now with the larger tires though.

I have been obsessing about mileage lately.... the computer tells me I'm getting 24.6 for my most recent tank, however, my math has it at 23.3. Not a lot of difference but if my glove box top is open there is a noticeable .043 loss and so I cinched my seatbelt tighter and listen to classical mus- aaaaAAAHHHH!!

...stop...

...just, please....

...stop.

*sigh* -Jagnorm is right, just friggin enjoy the ride, Gern, c'mon man!

Mine is almost always within 0.5 mpg of actual mpg calculated from each fill-up. From what I've heard from owners of other brands and models of vehicles, this is very good.

I too found it is best not to watch the mpg readout. Doing so makes me go into cruise-control mentality, whereas best mpg comes from letting gravity help the truck go downhill, then using momentum as much as is possible up some kinds of hills. All within the constraints of safety, of course.

the comp is pretty accurate....i always reset my mpg/trip meter everry fill up and do the math based on how many gallons i filled up with...i've found it to be usually acurrate btwn .1-.2 mpg

when I had stock tire size my mpg readout was accurate. It's useless now with the larger tires though.
this is correct, when i put on my 33" KM2's i noticed a 2mpg loss but the comp is also off now since the tires ARE larger....

I have noticed that it can take a LONG time to adjust downward. When I pull the trailer for a few tankfuls of gas, the readout may say 14-15 but I know through the math that it is under 13, closer to 12. However, the DTE is usually close to being right or always optimistic.

it is good to reset the computer every once in a while. After many miles, it becomes less accurate. I reset mine at every fillup.

Winter fuel blend will lower the mpg average. Mines seems to be very accurate.
