I'm sure this has been covered before, but I didn't see it anywhere on my search...

I have an '09 Frontier (4wd SE V6 4 door) and it doesn't have a dipstick to take a look at the transmission fluid level/condition. What do you guys do to address this?

And when did Nissan start doing this crap? This is my third Nissan and this is the first time I've seen this. This also includes my previous Frontiers, my fiance's '06 Sentra, brother in law's Xterra, etc. If i wanted to deal with **** like this I would have bought a Toyota.

There is a dipstick, at least it was there on my 2008. It's on the passenger side towards the rear and it's held in place by a bolt. Nissan prefers you have the dealer monitor the fluid but you can do it yourself. My feeling is is they don't let you check it and there is a leak resulting in a trans failure, then they should eat the repair.
Let me know if you find what I am referring to.

Yeah, but how do you check the fluid level? I've never had a vehicle with anything like this. If you remove the bolt is there a way to check the fluid level?

The bolt is holding the cap in place. Remove the bolt, pull it up and the dipstick should be attached.

Trust us, the dipstick is there. They just bolt it down.

Nissan is atleast nicer then Dodge. They don't even give you a dipstick.

Why do you want to check it all of a sudden lol?

I'm doing a drain/fill on mine at 30k, another 8k miles and It will be in the middle of the summer sometime.

I'm doing my diffs when the weather gets a little nicer/not snowing. They are a little past due, I'm at 21.5k miles on my truck. Not sure how many miles you are at, but if you want to come over one weekend, I have an amount of tools and we can do your diffs/tranny change.

I bought it used with 22k on it. It drives and shifts great, but just a piece of mind thing...

It was a fleet truck so it has a gang of miles on it for an '09. Extremely clean (accident free) truck for an ex fleet vehicle though. I used to work in the auto industry back in Atlanta so I know how to buy vehicles, and what to look fo,r so I know I bought a good vehicle and that I got a GREAT deal. The only thing that concerned me when I first inspected it (I got it from an auction) was that it had a lot of mud underneath it. It looked like maybe it got stuck in the mud once. It came from Wyoming so who knows WTF that company did with it... I want to check the fluid to make sure it looks good.

edit: Thanks a lot for the offer. I think I'm okay right now, but I may take you up the the future. I have a lot of tools, but my garage is really small. My truck barely fits in it so I let my fiance park her car in there instead.

My garage is just 1 door, but its about 1.5+. I can fit the fronty in, CC LWB, with about 12'' left over. When I put my spacers on, I had it backed out about half way, but I wasn't concerned.
Yeah, always smart to check up on it, for peace of mind, like you said. I drove mine through a dammed up beaver pond/stream thing and took pics of it in the muddy water. So I know my rear axle has to be full of crap and I need to get that done. Hopefully that little breather stayed closed in the water or didn't allow a lot in, its been quite a few miles since.
