calico is pretty cool to see, lots of cool trails out there. don't go alone. you are military, so i'm sure you know your north and south directions, lots to explore, just maybe bring a compass since you aren't familiar with the area. lots of hills to get lost in.

yea man, exit ghost town road and follow the loop up. you will see a few dirt roads just east of the ghost town park enterance. the first one leads to a few of the main trails, the second is mule canyon, a poplular camping spot for rv's and such. lots of easy/moderate trails in there to play on.

Mojave Rd, from needles to barstow, with tons of side trails.

Get the book "Back Country Adventures Southern California"

Get a used copy on line cause they are a little spendy, over 150 thails in central and southern california in that book

thanks guys im gonna be checking out calico the first weeknd i have off, a couple of my buddys in chevys..... are gonna come haha. but better to be with chevys then no one at all. lol thers a jump between seatle and king? only thing about going out ther is you have to get permission from range control. sometimes they dont grant it especially if its for just going wheeling haha. ill check it out this rotation tho. is the poker run all fast racing or is it slower trails too cause i really like wheeling in slower stuff taking my time enjoying the views. and i will definetlly check out that back country book im gonna get one for arizona too since im in az about 8 days a month. thanks a lot guys for the help.
