I have an 08 Frontier Crew Cab 4x4. I want to hook up a standard flat pin trailer light set up. The Nissan kit comes with a wiring harness, a jumper harness and relays. Do I need the Nissan kit or can I simply add a kit that hooks into the tail light plugs?

Do yourself a favor and get the Nissan kit, it is literally plug and play and will save you time/headaches.

If you splice or just hook into the tail lights, you will either melt the wires or blow fuses left and right or etc....

Nissan requires a relay be used and this is why the "kit" is a must. Anything else will cause issues as it has been documented on all Frontier/Xterra/Pathfinder/Titan/Amada forums.
