[V8 man]

I don't like maxing my truck out, I'm not rich and can't afford new trucks as I like. I like to ignore the "dry weight" classification and go strictly by the GVWR. My little tráiler is 2523 GVWR and it's plenty for myself and wife. I live where conditions are harsh, temps often well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit and extremely dusty and fail conservative on these numbers. Salesmen will always flash a billion numbers at you trying to confuse you but the bottom line is, if your truck is towing empty, no passengers, cargo, then about 3/4 of tow cap is all I would do. Also if you have a 4wd, the transfercase and front diff DROPS your tow cap by about 500 lbs. :surprise: I say 6000 lbs is too much.

200 pound, not 500. Read the manual.
6500 max. 4WD or crew cab -200, 4WD and crew cab -400.

It can do it. Won't hurt it. Not the best choice. Any vehicle that is approaching it's limits doesn't do well.

My boat has an advertised dry weight of 1960 pounds. Figure in a trailer, fuel, cooler, etc. and I am closer to the 3000 pound mark. I could have got a vehicle that had a 3500 pound tow capacity, but that is too close to the limit for me. For a nice cushion I was shopping in the 5000 pound and up towing capacity. So much nicer to tow with that much extra margin.
