Hi all,

I've tried searching the forum on various tonneau covers and found some good info, but haven't quite run across the question I have (hope I didn't miss it -- if I did, I apologize for starting a new thread).

I've had my 2010 Frontier King Cab SE for almost 2 months now and love it. I wanted a soft tonneau cover for it, and ended up going with the Extang revolution cover (roll up). I am happy for it except for two things:

1) it completely blocks the factory bed extender from swiveling because the side rails for the cover protrude into the bed about 1.5 inches

2) it makes noise at highway speed (sounds like a huge bubble bee is trapped behind the plastic panels in the passengers side rear of the cap -- this it only does when it's hot it seems though ... doesn't do it in the morning on my way to work, but won't stop in the afternoon on the way home).

I thought I had figured out where the noise was coming from, but I guess I've removed it one too many times in my efforts to make it quiet, and the threaded plastic knob that holds the front of the cover down came apart in my hands. I can't handle the noise, so I think this one is ending up in the garbage as a "live and learn" experience.

That brings me to my question:

Is anyone aware of a soft tonneau cover (non snap down) that works well and: 1) doesn't block the factory bed extender for Frontiers that are not equipped with the utilitrack system -- that is, my bed extender is simply locked in place at the tailgate end of the bed, and 2) doesn't make a ton of crazy noise on the freeway?

Thanks so much!

Hi Ken!

Did you ever solve the noise problem? I have the same truck and I bought an Access Literider roll up tonneau cover. My symptoms are identical. In the cool morning it's a smooth and quiet ride. As soon as the sun heats things up a bit then highway speeds wake the hornets. It's a bit annoying.

Thanks!

I have the revolution cover and it dosen't make any noise at all (maybe it's a longbed thing?). As far as the bed extender not rotating out, I agree - it sucks. But I still use the telescopeing feature a lot though. Other than that, after three years I still like the cover a lot.

i currently dont have a tonneau but i have been looking at the STS tonneau. its low pro and looks like it wont interfere with the utilitrack/bedextender.

not to mention its pretty cheep for a hard tonneau.

I did. It turns out what I was hearing was the lip of the cover up by the cab. Apparently, as it expanded, it was just long enough to rub/flab against the cab and make the swarm of hornets sound. I ended up getting some 1/4 inch single sticky side foam seal from the local home improvement store. I affixed it to the bottom side of that lip and haven't heard a peep from it since :). Let me know if my explanation doesn't make sense and I can snap a pic to help show it.

Good luck!

I see exactly what you are talking about! So you didn't use double sided you used single. And that adds stiffness and/or weight to that to keep it from flapping so violently?

Nope, I just used the single sticky sided stuff, and like you said, that seemed to add enough stiffness to keep it from flapping around and making any noise. Hopefully the same solution will work for you :)
