I have a 2004 Frontier, 6 cylinder, crew cab, 2door and my tire size is P265/70R15. I am having difficulty getting new tires, very few manufacturer makes this size. Supplies are getting lesser every year. I think that they will discontinue this and I need to act soon. I need to change my tire size but I am afraid that it might cause problems for my truck later on. Do you have any experience changing tires like mine? If so, what size did you changed it into and how’s the performance overall (the tires and the vehicle)? I appreciate your comments, thanks in advance.

Youve got a few options.

This is what i found thatll fit on tirerack

https://m.tirerack.com/tires/TireResultsServlet?tab=ALL&width=265/&ratio=70&diameter=15&zipCode=#0

You can also go to a similar size on a 15 inch rim. The attached screenshot is from the specs and avaliable sizes chart on the general grabbers. Look at the overall diameter column. There are about three other sizes that around 29 inches, with slightly different widths that you could install.

You can even upsize to a 31 or 32 inch tire, with a small lift or some slight dender trimming.

Finally, you have the option of buying a set of aftermarket wheels. If you go for a 16 or 18 inch rim, youll have many more options avaliable. Check to see if the bolt pattern from the 2003 gen parhfinder is the same as that of your truck. If so, you could score some used 17 inch rims and throw them on your truck.

Good luck

You could also go in to a tire store and ask. They will know what tire sizes are common / more cost effective.

Discount tire is normally great for this. When I had a ford ranger, I went in and asked if I could go "one size up" on tire size and the salesperson was quite helpful. He suggested going from a 235/75/15 to a 31x10.5x15. To make sure, they mounted up one tire on the front and put it back on the ground and turned the wheel slowly left to right to check to make sure it would fit. Once confirmed, they mounted up the other three and sent me on my way.

I still can get 265/70R15 tires but not much choices and there's no guarantee on its "freshness".
My current bolt pattern: 6-139.7.
--------

I have asked the tire store for help and they gave me the following choices:
255/70R16
245/70R16
255/70R16
There will be changes in the width and the rim size. Which do you think is the best one that will have the least bad side effect to the truck?
I need to maintain the original tire and wheel combination diameter. It also says not to change the input from the wheel and tire combination, the diameter of the OEM combination need to be maintained, according to www. Perfomanceplustire.com.

My main concern is the safety performance of the truck, I read an article that changing the tire size can affect the suspension, ABS, handling and so on. It's scary to make a choice. :)

Nissan was class leading when it went to the industrial standard (at the time) "big boy" off road tire the 31x10.5r15 for the 4wd pathfinder and hardbody trucks. I always thought that it was a shame they went with the 265/70/r15 (29.5x10.5) for the first gen frontiers. I really think that your best option would be to go 31x10.5 on your current rims.

255/70R16=10x30= This is the real compromise of a tire. 1/2" narrower. 1/2" taller.
245/70R16=9.6x29.5. You are keeping the same diamtere but you are going narrower by 1". I wouldn't do this, mess with your track width and stability.
255/70R16(assuming you mean 265/70)=10.4x30.6. The 265/70/r16 is currently a very popular tire but is essentially a 31x10.5 (if you compare actual tire measurements which are slightly different than the calculated nominal), so you gain nothing getting new wheels and this size over simply getting 31x10.5r15

If you want my advice (which you kindda are asking for by posting this question): if you think your 265/70/r15 are getting too stale, go for some 31x10.5s.
